Hey guys, I bought a @!#$ty header off ebay but Im gonna install it none the less. So I have heard that on the 2000-2002 you need to delete the EGR or some @!#$? Not quite sure what is meant by this. There is a small tube that comes off the passenger side of the header and there is also a hole in the gasket for it. So am I supposed to block this port with a different gasket or what. I have read in past post that you do, but I'm just a little confused on the issue at hand, so if someone could clear this up for me it would be greatly appreciated.

use the stock gasket (the one already on your car and you will be good to go. Be prepared to get a check engine light and need a heated O2 sensor installed.

And be prepared to have extremely odd misfiring issues that don't seem to make any sense.

What really? What other options do I have for a header?
In my experiences its a hit and miss on the O2 sensor/misfire issue... i put a Pacesetter header on my 2000 2.4 over 2 years ago and i'm having no issues what so ever with the stock O2 sensor. Nor am i getting any misfire problems.
Nothin just go for it. There's a thread about my header install that is very confusing, but I'm the one who gets extremely odd problems; you'll be fine, it's just a header. Go bolt it on.

Don't listen to this @!#$. I have OBX Header on my 98 and I have my stock o2 sensor. no lights no problems. There is no need for a heated O2 sensor in the front, the rear dose. You may want to double gasket it. 2000 doesn't even have an EGR valve

You are not totally correct here. A heated O2 sensor should be stock on the 2.4 like it is on a Ecotec. Also is the header being installed ceramic coated?

Its not ceramic coated but I am planning on wrapping it with header tape. So does the little tube coming off the header cause the mis-fire issue by trapping the exhaust gases? Would I be better off cutting the lil bastard off and welding a patch over it, because as I understand the tube is not required on the 2000 2.4l.

What are you referring to exactly in that comment? Ecotec's have a 4 wire O2 sensor stock (which is heated). Yes stock a 2.4 does not have a heated O2 sensor (we are talking the first, primary sensor, not the nrear one which does not matter in this subject). The 2.4 should have a heated sensor stock, but GM did not do that.

the gasket takes care of that......no cutting required.
you need a gasket meant for a 2000-2001 2.4

if he has the OBX that ripped off the RKS, then that is why he doesnt have problems. on the RKS and the DC header, the O2 is located in one of the primaries, which keeps it close enough to the head so that it doesnt need to be heated. the headers that place the O2 in the collector are the ones people are having problems with.
i have the check engine light also after i installed my header...However i didnt really know about jbody before the install and i used the aftermarket gasket and my exhaust was like blowing out of the front of the motor...so quick fix we took some gasket maker and some thin steel and made our own block off plate on the motor..works great...i still have a cel tho..but if i unplug my front 02 sensor it doesnt misfire at all, hows this possible?
if it has EGR, and the header dosn't, cut a grove in one that will make it work properly. OR you could have bought the right Header for the f-ing car. Not some cheap crap.

dude ....you bought an OBX, and youre telling people that they bought crap??
he said he has a 2000+ and does NOT have the EGR. he just has a header that is EGR compliant (which most are....some you just dont notice beacuae the flange is notched out instead of a small tube being used)

to be on the safe side, just buy a heated sensor. if you have problems then switch to the heated O2. its nothing that will keep you from driving it a short time until you switch over. the only thing im not sure about is the length of your wires. im not familiar with the eco, so i dont know if you get them to reach. if they dont reach, then your better off just using the heated one to begin with.
Hey whiteboy i have the same ebay header probably. It looks just like a obx but got it off ebay. Have someone weld the hole shut at the flange for the egr. The little tube that comes out of the primary all the way to the right and goes to the flange. Then use the gasket it came with. If you use a 2000 metal gasket it will leak. Mainly due to the fact that the flange isn't pperfectly flat. I have no leaks except where the down pipe connects. The springs compress all the way before you can get it to go tight so be ready to cut the springs a little short. I also recommend all new mounts.
On a side note the one i baught was built and welded real good and is heavy. It also is pure stainless like the auction says. It has some regular metal in it because a magnet will stick to it. For the price you can't beat it as to i've had it on for 3 months now with raid temp changes. Some grades of stainless can't hold up to temp changes and will crack after awhile. It also fit perfect cept taking a couple smacks with a hammer to get the flange over my studs which looked to be a little bent some how.
