ok well ive been posting alot on my 2.2L ohv motor and yeah its slow but people were sayin i would only have like 100hp with header, full exhaust , intake , port and polish head. anyways its an automatic ( i hate having an automatic)
but im lookin to get a 2.4L so i have question on that
please try to answer all of them
thanks
1. if i swap the 2.4L will it bolt right up ?
2.will i need a new trans?
3. if i keep the auto will it be slower?
4. if i get the 2.4L how much power do u think i can get out of it with bolt ons?
the 2.4 wont bolt up to your 2.2 tranny, you'll need a 2.4 trans(and believe me theres more to it than that) no matter how you look at it
in this case stock autos are slower than stock manuals on j's, but if you swap in a 2.4 it will most definately be quicker then what you got rite now, whether it be auto or manual. and with the kinda bolt ons you're talking about you could maybe pull about 150-160 horse @ the wheels outta the 2.4 (that might be kind of a generous number)
hope that helps
yeah im dealing with the same problem at the moment, got a 2.2 and a 3spd. If you re going as far as swapping the engine and trans, you might as well go with a 2.4 and 5speed, but Jon is right on this one. you cant just drop these things in and expect them to work. computer, harness, shifter, clutch pedal, and many more things would need to be swapped. I will be doing mine soon ill try and keep everyone posted, whether or not it goes well.
Did I mention I drive a 2000 Lumina now?-----wigm-tuners.org member
instead of doing a swap, just buy a z24/gt. Alot less headach, and could cost the same or cheaper if you sell your current car. Plus youll go from a basic car to one with power everything and sunroof.
just my opinon.
I did my 2.4 swap 2 months ago and took me about 2 days. That was even swaping to a 5 speed. And jeff you can do a swap cheaper than buying a z24/gt. Unless you get a good deal. Heck i only have $600 in my swap . If any of you two need help just pm me.
