i have a 99 sunfire with a 2200 5spd, i want more power. i have a 3.3 engine sitting around.
i was gonna swap out for an LD9. but i would like to go different. could i get a 5spd tranny to hook up to the 3.3?
any help, or anyone tellin me jus to buy a LD9 an drop it in, is appreciated!
I think the 3.3 is a 90 degree v6, which makes it very similar to the 3800. So your swap will most likely be just about the same as doing a 3800 swap.
yeah the 3300 is pretty much a mini 3800. used in 89-93 GM mid size cars. it would be just like a 3800 swap, with a few minor differences. I have heard of people getting the 2.4 trans to bolt up to a 3800 but ive never done a v6 swap into one of these cars, so i cant tell you for sure. if the trans bolts up to a 3.8, it likely will to the 3.3

the 3.3 will bolt up to the 2200 trans not the 2.4 you would be better off with a 3800 its the same basic engine dementions
I remember the 3300... Saw a few donated cars at Auto Service school that had it under the hood. Gm's W-cars they were (Chevy Celeberity, Olds Cutlass Ciera & Achevia, Buick Century & Pontiac 6000)... Same platform also used the LN2 (2.2L, 2200) from '94-up. So if you can lay your hands on one with the trans-axle you desire, you're adhead of the game.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
yeah it is the 2.2 trans that bolts up sorry bout that. the good thing is you already have the trans you need.

You'll need to have the flywheel machined to be a lil thinner so it'll mount & mate the clutch assembly properly with the input shaft. And learn how to install a pilot bushing in the 3300's crank, since I've yet to see one that came with a stick.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
Most FWD cars with a manual dont have a pilot bushing/bearing in them. Im not sure if a Getrag input shaft even extends far enough for a pilot bushing to even be usable.
depending on the area they don't like when you swap an older motor into a newer car
i did a 98 motor into a 99 but unless you get the broadcast code off the motor you wont know (i removed it) in your case they will know a 3300 is old so might wanna check that first think its an emission thing
