10:1 wiseco pistons???
Friday, December 26, 2008 8:17 AM
Anyone know how i could get my hands on a set of 10:1 pistons for my LD9? does wiseco do custom orders? Im not looking forward to spending almost 700 on JE pistons.

well according to turbotechracing and wisecos website they only have 9:1. i was wondering if wiseco will make a set custom for 10:1. I am sticking with the mp45 after my build and i wanna bump the compression up a bit for some more power. Would 10.5:1 pistons be ok with the mp45 on a 2.5" pulley and a 75 shot of nitrous?

i think you could get 10.5:1 and a thicker head gasket and will drop compression a little bit.

if it will hold up to 10.5:1 with the blower and the nitrous then i wouldnt mind using that.....

Talk to Karo hes always been my guy when it comes to things like that. Try talkin to Ryne at TVR he might be able to do something for you too.

10.5 would be a real nice compression for that charger. Just be through with your tuning on and off the spray. I would have a wide band on at all times with any boosted and sprayed car.

unless im mistaken i believe karo has 10:1 s in stock for the ld9...so that could be some fast shipping if you get with him soon

word on the street is if you want it karo can get it. it doesnt hurt to call him up.

you may wanna think about those 10.5:1 pistons tho, the m45 is garbage and needs as much help as you can give it.

if you did the 10.5:1;s with the m45 it'd be the first ive ever heard of someone trying it. i think it'd be amazing to be completely honest.

but yes, karo at carcustoms.net is the man and CAN get you either the 10:1's like you want or the 10.5:1's... just expect a LONG wait if they are not in stock. literally 2-4 months.

I agree, though it has been proven that even 9:1 pistons in a built motor on stock charger can still run 13's in an auto car.

Either way, as long as your bottom end is built and your tuned your motor should hold up fine to the m45+ nitrous. I sprayed a 75 shot on my 2.6 m45 stock motor and all and it was fine, untuned on the 310's lol. I would highly suggest running either a dry shot or a direct port setup, as over time the fuel from a wet kit can ruin the sc bearings.

wiseco will custom make your pistons to whatever specs you want. When I ordered mine it took a little over a month.

wow thanks for the input guys. i would love to do the 10.5:1 pistons as i think that would give me a nice torque curve especially with me porting the head and using secret cams. i just hope nothing goes wrong with the nitrous... its a wetkit though

might as well go for 11:1 just make sure they put valve relieves on the pistons. If you go over with piston size then you will lose a bit of compression so the extra compression wont hurt. I would also stick with the stock gasket thickness or thicker to make sure you have enough valve clearence.

is there anyone on here running 10.5:1 pistons in the ld9 now? if so is there any modifications needed to use them? (thicker gasket, valve reliefs......)?

^^^^ i know of one that HAD them, paul tjepkes.... the pistons come direct from wiseco with the valve reliefs. they are pretty wild looking compared to even a set of 10:1's.

click here to see pics of various ld9 pistons

its not some big elaborate process to get them. Call Karo, place the order, Wiseco will make them however you specify (pic compression ration and if you need valve reliefs ect.)

I totally think 10:5:1 and the GM charger would rock, but keep in mind with higher compression and boost the tuning has to be right!!

It is my dream for 11:1 and boost (Turbo). maybe one day.

awesome!!! 11:1 and turbo would be sick!!! ive got 10:1 wisecos goin in my eco block and i plan to boost the hell outta her. honestly i think that is what most everyone should be doing. we have a hard time tuning higher boost numbers so why not help it out with a lil extra compression. everyone is gettin super low compression pistons and maxxing out a 2bar for boost and cant tune for any more psi and they end up not putting down numbers they would like. with the extra compression you have more power being made with lower boost numbers and the car isnt a total turd out of boost.

id only really lower compression if i was running a standalone and went buck wild with boost pressures. with what we have for tuning i feel safer trying to put down some power with 15 psi and under not trying to stretch into 3 bar territories.

with the 2.4, some of the highest hp numbers have been put down with motors built with pistons of stock cr, like brians motor for example, he was running some 9.5:1 wisecos.

back on topic, to the OP, buy the 10.5:1's !!!!!!!! im gonna take a wild guess and say with the turd of a m45 you wont be disappointed you got those pistons

Looks like im going 10.5:1. Can my setup be tuned good enough with hp tuners or will i have to go standalone? id rather not go standalone. So 10.5:1 with valve reliefs, eagle rods of course, 2.3 oil pump swap with balance shafts deleted, secret cams and porting the head, mp45 with a 2.5" pulley and a 75 shot of nitrous it is!!!

forgot to add the team green lsd insert too.... already have both motor mounts. i dont wanna add the tranny mount inserts just for the sheer fact that i want the car to be somewhat streetable. driving my s10 around all the time is driving me nuts

your tuning should be fine with the gm reflash and hpt. that blower cant produce boost numbers high enough to need a standalone, by then all its doing is pushing heat.

The Cav will be just as streetable with the trans mounts inserts than without. I had no problem driving around PA with them installed
