im lookin to drop a new engine and tranny into my sunfire after i finish payin my step dad. i dont really know whats good but im thinkin a H.O. Quad 4 and a 5 speed(if possible). i mentioned this to my step dad and he says id be better off getting a different car. right now it has a 2200 and a 3 speed automatic . plz give me advice on what to do with it

I'm in the same boat as you are on this one. (as far as a swap goes) If you don't really know what's good, you should put the project on hold for awhile and surf these forums for some insight. I have a 97 myself, and I will likely keep the 2.2 but swap the 3 speed to a 5 speed in mine. Why? Its just my daily driver, and I'm not looking to get alot of power, but a bit more than stock. (not to mention its gonna be easier than switching the whole motor and tranny) If you don't have alot of knowledge in this area, it will get complicated. I suggest buying a cav or sunfire that has a 2.4 and a 5speed and go from there. It will probably be cheaper, too.

ive been browsing threads about engine swapping for awhile now, read about people swapping for 3800s, ecotecs and the likes into their cars.

if i buy another car, even though i like my car, it probably wont be a sunfire or cavalier
