Advice for polishing valves...
Wednesday, January 28, 2009 7:21 PM
so today i went out and found my old stainless steel valves ive had for years but never got much use. i always hated the fact they had a dull, lifeless look to them so i had an idea and wanted to try it out...

stuck the valve in the end of a drill and went to town on the head of it with some 320 grit sandpaper while it spun, then went to 1000 grit and then finally used some polish. the head looks freaking AMAZING and shines like chrome.

just wondering if this is the best way to do this or should i leave out the finishing polish stage?

please excuse the dull and lifeless cell phone pics...

continuing progress...

tonight i tried 220 grit, then 320, then 1000 and then finally the polish. worked even better, im down to probably 15 minutes per valve now. the drill gets really hot and so does the valve so you cant just sit there and hold the sandpaper on it or you'd burn to finger! lol

^ right!

and phil idk... make em look good for pics?

i guess all the high dollar manley and other big names all come beautifully polished like this right out of the box so why shouldnt our's too?

im going to swirl polish the stems when im done with the heads as well so i KNOW thats supposed to help with flow..

They resist carbon build up better than regular machined valves. No sharp edges on the valves to cause hot spots or detonation.

Win^^^

This is also the ONLY thing swirl polishing does for us on the backside of the head of the valves as well. A regular polish would do just as well.
