Looking for Camp Position Sensor(Help)
Monday, January 26, 2009 7:34 PM
i did an ecotec swap to my 2000 cavalier, from a 2003 cavalier. My check engine light is on due to the "cam position sensor"....can someone tell me where this is,because i am unsure of it. I had taken my valve cover off to paint it,and im not sure if it was under there and I didnt connect it or something stupid. Any help would be very appreciatted.

Thanks, MIke

It uses the ignition to determine cam position, from what i recall.

Cam possition tells the ECM when to fire the injectors. Crank-possition tells the ignition when to fire. If the cam position sensor failed, the ECM's probably resorted to "batch-fire" mode (Half the injectors all fired in groups every 1/2-crank rotation) instead of sequential (each one individually everytime it's cylinder is on the intake stroke). Batch-fire was moved away from... over to sequential... in later years (Like yours) to help improve emissions (Primarily), so getting it addressed before the test is a must.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
