so i have been reading countless articles on backpressure here and other forums but still havent quite found the answer to my question.
Me and a friend had a little discussion on backpressure/ exhaust velocity and threw my car in the mix. I have a 2003 cavalier 5 speed with a little over 80k miles only performance mod is a AEM CAI. Now i know that on Turbo cars the bigger the turbo or amount of horsepower the larger the diameter of an exhaust pipe should be used. Largest one i have seen has been a 4' pipe on the AMS Evo.
so the argument was a 2.25' pipe from the exhaust manifold to the tip with no cat or muffler would result in a couple extra ponies than the same diameter pipe but with an after market muffler and cat such as a magnaflow or flomaster. Now i in no way will attempt a no muffler no cat setup even if it would result in more horsepower especially here in so. cal. so dont think i am atempting this. can someone please shine some light on this.oh we made a friendly wager. the one who can show sufficient info to back up their theory wins a 24 pk of beer and a big fat steak : ) . so i am asking (beging) for some of your guys info... Thanks
I dont know how i could of missed this!!! Thanks!!
