I have been doing a little research, and have found that if I am going to put a 2 step on my car, that I should upgrade the oil pump gears.
I have read that it is because the factory crank expands and cracks the oil pump gear.
Would an aftermarket crank pulley have the same problem?

if the crank is what expands, what would an aftermarket crank pulley do to solve the problem?
prolonged periods of time on the limiter can break the gears. I'm pretty sure wenzel did it at one point on one of his older ecotec engines.
I ran a 3 step launch control for a while and never had any problems. But if you expect to race a LOT (at least once a week) its definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
3 step?
I thought I read it was the pulley that expanded...
seeing how the oil pump is driven fom the pulley
i broke my oil pump doing that @!#$, good thing to have a oil pressure gauge.
im sure wenzel did that aswell as skunk

Don't upgrade your oil pump gear and do a lot of standing on the 2-step expect this...
Catastrophic failure. It also claimed a turbo as well, even though the oil pressure was gone for only a minute, the turbo seized up a week later. I would highly reccommend the gear.

I got lucky that none of the parts were small enough to make it into the motor itself. So it's well worth the 365 to get the gear than have it claim thousands in motor damage.
