Fuel management system
Thursday, February 12, 2009 6:22 PM
I'm just getting started on the tuning of my 02 z24 with the LD9 motor. I have installed Pace Setter Headers and swapped out stock intake filter for a Vibrant Cold Air intake. Hey you got to start somewhere right? So I figured why not start with intake and exhaust. I have recently purchased a "performance module" from Jet. and was very disappointed. Not sure if its done right but I'm still not noticing the difference in the timing, but she does seem to run alittle rich though. What I am needing to get some info. on is how would I go about setting up a stand alone management system for the fuel system. A tech i know says that the ECU has a fuel pump shutoff for when you hit a certain speed, causing it to "top out." I have talked to a few people, though on different cars, say that you can manage to get around this by setting up a rocker switch that keeps your pump on. What companies are there out there that make LD9 performance rails, regulators, injectors, and higher flow pump? Need a little info on this, and you guys are the experts on the J-body's. If there are some J tuners out there around the Giddings, Tx area come on by O'reilly auto parts and holler at me. Oh yeah, are the intake manifolds by JBP good, or should I go with some of the venom manifolds that I have seen on Ebay?

For fuel tuning look at HPTuners. Get rid of the Jet module waste of money.

1. You only have one header
2. The Jet module is junk, your mistake was buying it
3. Asking how to remove the limiter is a no-no on the forum. Intake and exhaust is not enough to warrant having it removed.
4. Do research about JBP on here.
5. A standalone will provide better and greater tuning capabilities, but is not really needed on a stock LD9.

tinkles pretty much said it.

really, i don't think you'll want to go over 108 once you realize how dangerous that is.

jbp has not been too great to anyone that we can think of on the org...i still wanna try em out for cheap hard to find stuff...what can i say? i always need to make a mistake for myself...otherwise i'll always be curious, lol.

Where in there did I ask how to remove the limiter?? All I said was I am starting out, and am looking for behind the catalog companies that make aftermarket performance parts for my motor. I didn't get in there and start bragging and talking my car is the shiz, chill out. I appreciate the info. on the module, already pulled it and am putting it on EBAY, so don't buy it. Oh, and I was reading on here that you can change out the coils to that of a NEON, any word on how that is going, what were the benefits?

The Neon coil swap thread is on the 2nd page of this forum...

Ok, maybe there was a hint of "how to remove" in the piece. What I meant was if you set up a fuel management system REGARDLESS if limiter is removed, does it help keep fuel flowing. BASICALLY, I want to know if it is worth the time and effort to do something like this and what are some companies that have parts. Didn't mean to step on toes, if I wanted to remove it I would have, but 108 is a joke I would atleast do 120. Honda can hit that mark without much effort. I'm used to imports, so this whole PCU limiter thing really blows. I guess you have to keep people safe becuase the idiots will kill ya.

you aren't going to need more fuel until you do internals or boost.

past 108 mark, the brakes are at there limit pretty much. and besides most races are over by the time you hit 80-85 mph. if you are not winning by then you wont be winning by 108

true...but there were some ppl that posted here saying that they were beating a honda or something till the limiter stopped em...idk...108 is the fastest i'll go for a looooong time.(and i already went there...won't again...)

how the @!#$ long is a race that a j-body loses because of it's limiter? longer that any drag strip i'm aware of. so that means this is happening on the street, where the highest speed limit is 65 (i think some states are 75, not sure).

you would be correct...hey, don't hate, i didn't do it.

How are you doing a quarter and only hit 85mph? With more acceleration means you will need a higher top end. If you have alot of acceleration, means hitting the limiter mark sooner, meaning cars without limiters more time to sweep by you. Always remember safety first, more speed = upgrade brakes, and add roll cage. Why would you want to finish the quarter at 85? that would be a quarter time of like 14 seconds. Lets see 14 seconds? Others 10 seconds, who will win? And badly I might add. But now we are just getting off subject. So unless I add boost a stand alone management system is pointless. Got ya, what all improvements are need to add boost?? Heavy duty block? Remember, I just want advice not critics and arguements.

There are cars that cross the line in under 12 seconds and still don't break 100mph.
