2.2 ecotect catback exhaust question
Tuesday, February 24, 2009 12:57 PM
For all of you out there with the '03 to '05 2.2L ecotec cavaliers, and that have a catback exhaust on their car, what company did you buy it from // did you buy it was a full catback, or a muffler and then bought piping and had it bent?

I can only seem to find one actual catback exhaust system for the 2.2L ecotec cavalier, and that is from vibrant performance.

I am, i've looked at many known and unknown companies for quite some time. I found vibrant makes one, and Rksport makes one but i found out that it's exactly the same as the vibrant catback... The reason i'd rather not have the vibrant is cause i was looking for the tuner "coffee can" style muffler rather than the muffler that goes to a bigger chrome tip.

if that is what you want then you might be better off just buying a "coffee can" and having an exhaust shop bend the rest.

Well thats what its coming down to it seems, but i'd rather not do that for a few reasons, main one being you have no "guarantee" or like return or anything if it breaks soon or w/e problem i might encounter. Also mandrel bending is very hard to come around where i live, closest place is vero beach( i live in melbourne florida - vero beach is an hour away) and its very costly, especially for buying/use of SS.

you can buy mandrel bends and have them weld it, my echaust on my 05 me and two friends did i bought the muffler, piping, tip, cat and we welded and cut and ground it all ourselves. even if u have to take it to a shop u can buy mandrel bends online. i bought them all mandrel bent for mine 2.5" with magnaflow cat and flowmaster super 40 muffler with 3" tip from the header back. it sounds mean.

arent all j-body catbacks the same? they all bolt up in the same spot, but some of the hangers changed location.

i spend $640 on my turbo back. 2- 45 degree bends, 2-90's 2- 180's. all stainless. all 2.5" and mandrel bends. and it was that price out the door. granted it was my friends shop doing it but still. there are plenty of options out there.

thxs for some of the input guys,

and as for the one who talked about the megan racing N/A catback exhaust... well heres the thing, i saw that neverenoughauto and some other sites sell it, claming it fights all 3rd gen cavaliers, well i called up megan racing and they said they KNOW it fights 95 to 02, but the first time i called they said they didnt know if it would fit 03-05, the 2nd time i got that it doesnt fit. So i'm iffy on whether to buy it or not...

ALL J body exhuats are the same. they will all bolt up with little modification. the cat is in the same spot, but some of the hangers might change location.

my 97 for example has the vibrant on it thats meant for a 99-02. all i had to do was move the mid pipe hanger 6 inches farther back on the mid pipe and problem solved.

^^^ speaks the truth....it will fit...with only minor modification. I currently have a custom setup that came off an 03 and my car is a 2000.

I purchased a Pacesetter Header for around 250 and a nice size Magnaflow muffler and cat both for 300.

I added piping that that was custom made by the auto shop when they installed everything and it came out really nice...

They charged me 240 and it only took 2 hours...

Total-790 but well worth it

Heading to the track tommoro night...Can't wait...
