Dyno hp/trq question
Wednesday, March 04, 2009 2:10 PM
I searched around a few times and could not find what i am specifically looking for...(but if i missed it i'm sorry).

I was wondering if anyone with a ecotec 2.2L cavalier has done a dyno test and/or has drag strip times that has any of the following perf. parts installed in any combination or seperately(if so just tell me what part/brand you put on):

SRI
catback exhaust
header(with or without dp ?)
cat converter
2.4L ecotec intake mani
cams(what stage?)
any tuning(and by who)

Both my dad(who has a 2008 cobalt sport - i want to be right up there with him ;p ) and i are curious as to how much HP/trq you can rly pull together on the 2.2 eco with boltons tuning and what not without (exception is cams) going F/i and without having to mess with real engine internals and such...

thanks

dont want to play with internals? get the supercharger kit. meant to be run on the stock engine and can be installed with simple handtools in a weekend.

i'm not looking to make it f/i at all.
dont want to spend the money(though its best for its money) at one exact time.
2ndly i like sound of non f/i cars better.
3rdly... idk
lol

basically with what you have posted above, minus the intake mani, and cams, i ran a 15.2 with an ok tune on the car.

he is right though. the sc will net you more than any of those things combined. if you want the power and want to keep up, thats your best bet.

and ill take a turbo or an sc cav over the na ones for sound anyday. wade's cav SCREAMED with his sc on there. and nothing like hearing a turbo spool up haha.

i agree as for SC/turbo being the competitve way to keep up now of days. but im a 17(turning 18) year old kid who wants some hp/trq, but doesnt have to be epic, but also wants the nice look under hood and overall outside car, and a nice deep(not high pitch and/or ricey) sound, a real drag like sound(ofcourse i wont get that in a I4 but... close enough for a I4).

thats not the point though... im just wondering wheel hp/trq with the boltons and intake mani and all that and such... considering thats prob the farthest i will go...

not enough without digging into the motor some... hate to say it...

i figured, still looking for some estimate even if its flywheel horsepower... like i said, im not looking to race, so in reality it doesnt matter if i gain a @!#$load or a lil. i'm just wondering... but obviously i would like to see a decent gain.

Didn't someone point out to me that the LE5 intake mani requires tuning?

Anywho, here's a little guess so far:

On a manual trans, I'm pretty sure the stock numbers are 130 HP and 136 TQ at the wheels.

K&N boasts a 5.39 HP gain
LE5 mani was dyno'd at something like 9 HP

Not sure about the rest, but that's +14 HP already. not too shabby is you ask me. If I had to guess, with a stage 1 cam, and a tune, around 160-ish?

Yes the LE5 mani requires tuning (to see a power gain). You can bolt it on and run it without issue, but it won't be worth the money without a tune. The eco PE engagement delay of 6200 rpm kills us. More fule from 3000rpm up, and a touch more spark timing does wonders. I hope to dyno in the spring, and more than peak power numbers, im hoping to seethe curve strong from 3500-7000 rpm, without the drop off we see on stock ecos after 5500 rpm.

If your car is a base model it should be side by side with any Delta car with the 2.4 Eco in it, so long as driver skill is equal.

A stock, base model eco j-body is faster than most people think they are.

With those mods, tuned and some traction you can easily go mid 14's.
