Fule pump....not acking normal

Well....this might be sorta the wrong forum but it will all tie together pretty well.

So, I'm noticing my fuel pressure not comming on like it should when I key the motor. Normally you turn key to run, wait 1 sec or so and you get pressure, well, I need to wait much longer before the pump stops building. Then as soon as it's done building the pressure immediately bleeds down...so fast that sometimes when I start the engine it doesn't want to start since the pressure is so low. Is there a check valve in the pump that is failing? Anybody had this happen to them?

I'm thinking it's a good time to get a racetronix in tank setup.

There is a one way valve in the sending unit (or Module), A lot of GM trucks with a 4.3 Vin W have this problem.

Sounds like it to me.

Make sure you don't have a leak anywhere else first.

Yeah, I checked for that first....nothing, no leak from tank to rail...not even an injector o-ring - which I was originally hoping the problem was.

FPR? Maybe the regulator took a crap?

Do you have a spare one?

the for sure way to tell is...

Turn the key to on, then off, four times in a row, thus letting the pump, pump up. then on the last key cycle, start it, If it starts right away, its the pump\valve.

I guess it could be the regulator....I dont have a replacement but Its the AEM remote which I can get rebuild kits for cheap. So I may ^try that...see what I got....then if it looks to be the pump, I'll get the racetronix and the AFPR rebuild kit. I could really use the racetronix pump anyway, was kinda looking for a good excuse. Then I can sell my inline I was going to use.

fast way to tell if its the FPR, take a vice grip and pinch the return hose off.

Mine does the same thing. I turn the key on and in a few seconds the fuel pressure goes way down. It only started doing that after i messed with the fpr. It still does it but runs and acts fine. So problem might be FPR

If you can find a way to temporarily install rubber hose after the regulator on the return line, you can check the regulator by pinching the hose. If the regulator is allowing fuel to return to the tank when it shouldn't, then blocking the return path will cause pressure to remain high.

I have seen problems in the tank with the flexible hose between the pump and the sender leaking. Doesn't sound like your issue because this problem usually is accompanied by some type of driveability symptom, but I wouldn't rule it out.
