Ebay ecotec heads

Hey guys, any of you that are thinking about buying cylinder heads on ebay, for any car. Watch carefully in the photos. It appears some of these sellers are laying the heads on their faces on the ground potentially @!#$ the mating surfaces up, which could either potentially ruin a good head or cause you to spend more money at the machine shop than necessary, etc, etc, etc.

Example of what I'm talking about is this ebay guy.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-2L-Ecotec-Engine-Header-w-under-5k-miles_W0QQitemZ160327613686QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item160327613686&_trksid=p4506 .c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A2|39%3A1|240%3A1318

And to those of you too lazy to click a link here.

look at that ground, look how the head is sitting. potential for scuffing that thing up, big time. Super awesome right?!? *sarcasm*

Just be careful when shopping around.

Also, in this ebay listing, the headgasket material was taken off........... which, makes me looking at this photo above cringe even more.

Shouldn't matter if there are scratches it in, nothing some JB Weld Liquid Head Gasket can't cure...

1) I doubt just setting it on the ground for a picture will damage it bad enough to need extra machining.
2) The headgasket is a MLS from the factory. No material to scrape off.

It is just definitely something to be aware of when buying @!#$ off of ebay. I've been going through some auctions and it is just... @!#$ you just don't lay a head down that way, even for a picture. The risk is just unnecessary. Lay the damn thing on its side and take your pictures, or lay it on a towel. Everytime I see pictures like that I see ignorance.

Why did you buy it if it was laying like that?

He didn't buy it, he simply saw it and thought it would be good to give people a heads up about it. Just something to be careful about and watch for.

a head bought off ebay should be taking a mandatory trip to the machine shop anyway (not to say laying a head on concrete won't f-up the mating surface anyway) so yea

but if you're looking to get a head for the eco ported, look here: M2race.com
