I'm not too sure if it'll hurt your gas mileage or performance, but if you have to worry about emissions you will definitley fail

Im not sure, but the 00 2.2 dont have an egr, so maybe the 2.4 dont either!? Could you possibly swap the computers? Just a sugestion, I dont know if it would work?

some did.

it may throw your car into some type of limp mode, that would affect those. I can not say for sure if this would happen or not.

there was something gay about my egr when i got my exhaust...when the shop completed the install, when we started it the exhaust was coming out of the front of the motor..so my brother in law made a gasket and covered it...no probs since just a cel

99+ had no EGR valve, they have a block off plate for it. You'll either need that 99 Computer (which also has other requirements, do a quick search), or something like HP Tuners to kill that code. IMO just use it, and get an exhaust that fits properly.

hp tuners dont work for a 96.

I had my egr removed when i had the gm sc on my 96. i had to deal with a check engine light, but it didnt mess up my gas mileage. i still got great gas mileage with my mods(little over 30mpg).

best bet would be to swap to a 97 ecu . there are write ups here somewhere.

to the guy with the exhuast coming out the front of the head. why not just put the EGR back on? or do you have a H.O intake manifold ? (which you can make the EGR work with).

all in all, the EGR is stupid and glad GM ditched it in 99

I did the HO mani swap and now i need a harness to switch over to a 97-98 so i can swap in my new ecu to get rid of that egr code. Does any one know if i was to use a 97-98 2.4 harness that is for a automatic could i just switch out the automatic sensor plug for the manual one and it would work just fine??

i dont think it works like that. why not just get a manual harness?

I guess it will work, i asked this guy Gary and he told me it work work and that he is use a automatic harness on his 2.4 5-speed. I cant find a 5-speed engine harness so thats why im useing the auto harness. This is what he wrote me....

How to use a 2.4 automatic engine harness on a 5-speed tranny......

(to use an auto harness you dont need to remove anything. you just need to hook up the neutral/clutch safety switch. the auto plug will be left alone and hook to nothing. for the egr u can yes use the 99 ecu or use hpt and turn it off. but currently i run an auto harness and ecu on my manual car and everything is fine.)

engines that were made with egr valves need them. when the egr valve is removed it will cause the engine to run lean. Also depending on how your driving habits the engine will lock up from its removal over time.

this is me and yes i do run a 97 automatic harness and pcm on my car. i run a nvg trans so i had to chop the pig tail for the vss and wire it into the auto harness as well that auto plug that you dont use will have a purple and a yellow wire that on the auto were your neutral safety and for the car to start you need to complete this link to get power to the starter. run these to your clutch safety or as i did i twisted them together and dont have to use my clutch to start the car. only other thing you need to hook up will be your reverse lights but i never did that.

how will it lock up? from 96-98/99 they had egr and from 99/00-02 they didnt. it was pretty much blocked off in the new cars and there is no provision for it in the intake tract anymore. my car as well as others run just fine without egr.

I know older cars did new ones may not a risk i wouldnt want to take

All that the EGR does is recirculate exhaust gas to cool the combustion process to reduce emissions. If the EGR does not operate the vehicle will not go lean. If it did somehow go lean you would get a SES light long before you melted it down.

as said by a few, EGR is emissions only. my main question is why remove it in the first place? HO manifold? If not, just put it back on. If you think you're gaining anything by not having it, you're wrong.

Why that H.O. manifold u cant get the egr back on because the manifold is in the way. There is a way to get around it but thats just to much work so thats why we block them and use HPTuners to get rid of the code or use a 99" ecu to get rid of the code as well.

maybe i wasn't clear. what i was saying is if he doesn't have an HO manifold and just blocked off EGR because he felt like it, just put it back on.
