So I decided on 2.5" exhaust since the header downpipe is 2.5" and it didn't make sense to go smaller. I bought a Walker 2.5" cat converter, a 2.5" Dynomax Ultraflow SS muffler, and a 28" long, Thrush glasspack resonator..and a 2.5" inlet polished tip. Muffler and resonator are both straight through design, perforated core.
Had a full exhaust system done up, 2.5" compression bent aluminized steel.... Well I got the perfect tone I was looking for... idle/cruising/highway rpms, exhaust is very quiet, low and deep...when I get on it, it;s louder of course, but not obnoxious, very deep and low, not too bassy, no resonances inside the car at all, in fact, I have to open the window to tell the exhaust is not stock.
Very impressed with the tone of the dynomax, I can't believe they can make a straight through design muffler that sounds so mellow, one thing I cannot stand is a super loud exhaust that 75% of the people on this site seem to love. I'm sure when the glasspack breaks in, the note will get louder, but it will still be very mellow. Performance wise, I didn't lose much low end, better mid to top end throttle response, I'm always suprised I'm going a lot faster then I think I am. I guess the rather long 28" resonator plays a big part in the tone too.
Anyhow, my review of this setup if anyone is looking for good performance that has a sleeper tone.

I have a similar set up, but with the LSJ header and the dynomax super turbo muffler. I agree that it makes for a beautiful note with 2.5" pipe and a good resonator. Even at WOT, i can still hear the engine/intake as well as the exhaust.
Good choice on the cat - my magnaflow highflow is apparently already shot - i'm getting a low cat efficiency code.

your cat might not be shot bro, it just might not be big enough. is it the same size as your stock cat was? i had the same problem when i had my exhaust done, except the cat wasnt bad. they just put a smaller one on than came stock and it wasnt breaking down the gases enough.

lol, I just got mine done today, ported cobalt ss manifold, magnaflow 2.5" cat, and custom madrel bent 2.5" catback, and 28" long resonator with coffee can muffler, only piece not 2.5" is the downpipe but soon to be. I actually like the sound I got from the coffee can, nice and low, but going to go magnaflow soon

Yes, no doubt, no doubt..but from what it sound's like now, even when the glasspack and muffler breaks in, it still won't be anything clsoe to loud or obnoxious.

If I posted clips, you would barely hear anything, I don't think it would be worth the time, to be honest... the Dynomax super turbo I already know has a nice, mellow deep tone...no suprises there, but it's chambered and flows around 400cfm... this straight through ultraflow ss flows about 1000cfm and I was expecting it to sound way louder then the super turbo, but's not much louder at all.

Thanks for the write up, I'm going to replace the exhaust on my Cavalier before the years end.
