Bomz racing makes cheap @!#$, I wouldn't bother, especially if it's not anodized.. the aluminum will wear and cause crank seal to leak over time...plus you don't want underdrive, get a same size crank pulley that's lighter..underdrive in my experience resulted in dimming lights at idle, alternator had to work harder to keep up proper charge, therefore died earlier then it should have, and other problems..not worth it... 8hp my @!#$ ass, not even close..maby 1 or 2 if you are lucky and have a headwind with god pushing

um... in my 8 years of working on the ld9 ive never once had issues with leaking from any of the 4 DIFFERENT non-anodized aluminum crank pullies ive used. two of them have wear grooves where your referring to and both engines they were on never leaked a drop (in that location).

and i totally agree on the underdrive being worthless. just get stock sized and call it a day.

mike- dont even both with that crap. try and find mike (md ld9's) pulley or an rsm one on ebay through seller frankiez, they are ETREMELY cheap and work flawlessly.

Well if it never happened to you, then I guess it's not possible!!. Those wear grooves over time can weaken the pulley enough that it bends and the unbalanced rotation tears up the seal...better keep an eye on it, or buy a metal sleeve to prevent further wear. I know several that had crank seal damage, 2 with ecotecs, one with LD9...the pullies were carcustoms, ASP and can't remembrr the third brand. It's also a well documented problem with all aluminum crank pullies if you do some research...you can buy different sized metal sleeves to use the the pullies to help prevent this problem, and some manufacturers make a metal hub to go with the aluminum for longer life...personally I would prefer all metal for it's strength and longevity, you can find ones with some weight savings that are all metal... there's metal hubs with bolt on aluminum pullies, this seems like a good idea because the hubs can be changed for different applications, and no chance of wear.

There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.

I had a Bomz underdrive pulley. Loved it no issues. Only got rid of it because I went charger. 13oz is not a waste.

All my pulleys are hard coated to try and prevent the groove from wearing into the snout of the pulley. Seems to work fairly well.

I have an old RSM ecotec crank pulley....$50 with free shipping in the lower 48.
It is dimensionally good, but no idea on the grade of aluminum.

There was one of my LD9 cranks that started to leak at the seal, but a new seal fixed the problem.
I also have an old RSM LD9 crank at home. $50 with free shipping in the lower 48.

Mastin did a comparison of all the LD9 crank pulleys he could get his hands on. I'll try and find the post.

This is what my last batch of LD9's looked like.

My pulleys and RSM's are close in design, but have a lot of little differences. The biggest being hard coated and not bare aluminum.

Just for reference. My first GP batch looked like this.

Also, if you want under driven, get an unorthodox crank pulley, and NOT a OBX pulley.
OBX 100% copied Unorthodox's basic design, and make it CHEAPER. Unorthodox is the only LD9 pulley maker that has a steel sleeve on the pulley...as noted before.

In other words, OEM diameter, buy / find one of mine.
Under driven, get a Unorthodox Racing pulley.

hopefully the link works or just go to customcargrills.com and look under pulleys they have one for the ecotec, I have it and it has worked great for over 2 years now, super light just under 14 oz., I believe it is slightly underdriven on the j-body so you have to get a slightly shorter belt but I have had no charging issues what so ever and i even run a small battery in my car.

my bad... is name is actually frankieSz. he has both styles on there for sale. undriven or stock sized.

and fastfire22 i didnt claim for it not to be a problem for others just because i havent had a problem with mine. just saying that of all my experience i havent. probably because ive always had brand new seals in my engines.

i really dont see how rubber can cut a groove in aluminum but whatever...

mike- ill be taking my rsm off the car soon. i have both rsm's, a bomz, and an unorthodox. only ones i missing that are CURRENTLY available are yours and obx's for a picture...

All the pullies I was referring to were anodized as well, which is extra protection, and they still failed... the "Car Customs" one that someone above was praising was one of the ones that caused a crank seal leak and the pulley was deformed, I had the carcustoms one too but never installed, ended up selling it...now this guy raced at the track so his car was more then the usual daily driver abuse but still, it happened in less that 10,000km mileage,

I am getting a balance shaft delete kit so I won't be getting a lighter crank pulley, doesn't seem like a good idea...but if someone makes a STEEL ecotec pulley that saves a bit of wieght I'd be down for that.,

I organized a group buy for the Carcustomgrills pulley back in the day when they first came out and a whole bunch of us got them...they were same size as stock, not underdriven at all...they were all silver and clear anodized... several of those people had wear on their pullies, and or/ the pulley deformed slightly, enough to make it wobble or cause accelerated wear, damaging their crank seals....SO, I would keep an eye on yours.

Anodized and hard coated are COMPLETELY different. Anodizing seals the surface from corrosion. Hard coating makes the surface VERY hard and also seals the surface. HARD coated anodizing does both, like the first batch of LD9 pulleys I sold. Hard coating with no anodizing is the hardest surface of the three, and that is why I only sell them hard coated now.

I will say this, in most every application I've seen a dyno chhart for, an underdriven lightweight crank pulley will make much greater gains in power than a stock size lightweight pulley. It has been dyno proven in the Suby forums time and time again, as well as the sr20 forums. I'm not saying that just being lighter won't make more power than stock, but underdriven will make a greater gain yet. It's all about rotational mass and rpm, fairly simple physics.
