I just bought the Tsudo 4-2-1 header, and read briefly on other threads that solid motor mounts are a good idea. Are they necessary? or will i be safe for another 100 000 kms without solid motor mounts?
Also, besides the poor quality gaskets, are there any other items i should pick up for the install? i've heard locklitie, copper gasket, and lots of RTV sealer.
Is it better to make the copper gaskets yourself? or are there better than stock gaskets for sale?
Respect...
I would buy a stock gasket from GM. They are lik 11 bucks. They are the best, and are "crushable" to seal very well. Locktite on the bolts/studs might not be a bad idea.
Motor mounts are ALWAYS a good idea. I bet yours is bad or on its way to bad already, and you don't even know it.

this.
rtv doesn't do so well with exhaust heat, so i don't know why you would need it.

Do i need both upper and lower motor mounts?
What will happen if i don't get mounts. What damage should i expect / look for?
You should look for torn mounts. Seems simple right?
It is best to replace both at once, and they can usually be had for around 100 for both. nothing says you HAVE to replace them. But if you are asking about it, then it is something you will eventually want (easiest performance mod around IMO) if you are trying to achieve and performance at all.
with the tsudo header it is a good idea to get better mounts because the flex pipe on those things have a tendency of taking a @!#$ when you least expect it. like mine did after 15,000 miles with stock mounts.

There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.
And you don't need solid mounts, just poly ones,

Thanks for the info!
Im going to buy the mounts right now.
Any ideas of Cat's besides magnaflow?
If you buy the mounts.... while they are more expensive, I highly recommend Level Zero Motrosports mounts, well the upper especially, the billet lower is solid and will have more vibes then the regular poly...They are well designed, look good, and built to last, look in the thread in this base.

You can order the LMZ Lower mount..In solid or with a rubber bushing..I am running LZM Upper and lower mounts Like them alot
Let me tell you right now the flex pipe will go out with or without soild mounts mine tore off from the header about a month after 20,000 miles and I have solid mounts all the way around. Not to mention if your mounts have alot of play in them the tsudo is only about 3 to 3.5 inches away from the firewall I'm sure it would make contact.
That wouldn't be typical to have the flex pipe fail that fast, at least I hope not, otherwise that's another strike against it.

well i FINALLY got all my parts together for the install.
my stock upper mount was definately blown, huge rip in it. the lower looked beaten up, but still good. 100 000 kms
I've slowly been trying to reduce the plastic rattle inside, but it is going to take some time....
i'll be posting some pics and my game-plan later.......stay tuned.
