I found a shop for my Port and Polish, BUT...
Tuesday, April 21, 2009 8:00 PM
I'm not quite sure what would be the best set up for a street legal 350-500 WHP head. I was thinking of getting 1 mm oversized valves, bronze guides (if possible), and using the 2.4 IM. Now...I was going to do the 3 angle valve job, but not sure if the 45 degree angle would be the best. Basically I'm asking for recommendations about this. Once again I need a reliable street legal, semi-daily driven engine, and I'm dead set on this port and polish. Thanks for any help!

I'm going to talk to the owner tomorrow, he was recommended by another guy, but he himself hasnt gotten head work from KNB over here in Cleveland. But when I was talking about the HP and what I wanted to achieve he seemed to know what it would take. I'm just trying to figure out what would be best for my wants with this car. I kind of want to compare what you guys think and have done, compared to what he thinks would be best. If both are the same, then its a done deal, if theres a little change, I think I'm going to hold off for a week or so and find the best possible port and polish.

a 3-angle valve job is more streetable because there is more meat to take the abuse of the valve slapping it for a long time. One important thing that i would request from my machinist is to have him benchflow the head before and after to see what kind of difference it made and to make sure the ports are balanced and pretty equal. Im in the process of doing a head build also, but im doing an LN2!

this is an informative post about valve seats and angles. I could type it out but i figured this would be a little easier. It has a ton of information but is a couple of pages long.

Yes, 5 angle will not last as long...it's typically used in racing applcations. And like was suggested, get it flowbenched.

Don't buy from MANTAPART!!

sivalves.com make bronze guides for both engines (2.3 or 2.4).

LD9 part number is VG 9474/00, quad is VG 9440/00. if they dont sell direct hit up turbo tech racing.

I'm tired of wasting my time... now I'm breakin' free.

hmm...I need bronze guides for my L61

thanks for the help guys. I'll make sure that my head is flow benched, because thats a really good idea to make sure your getting something out of the head. I'll keep you posted on what I end up doing, or for any questions.
