2.0 ECOTEC Supercharged Engine swap...
Friday, April 24, 2009 1:32 PM
i have a 96 cavalier, with a blown 2.2L engine. im looking to buy a 2.0L ecotec supercharged engine (i would perfer a 2.0L turbocharged, but cant find one) and swap it out...anyone have any idea how difficult that would be? any suggestions?

Search and find out. You will see that is has NEVER been done and due to dimensions, can not be done unless you wanna build your own tubular front end and get involved in a few other MAJOR mods to the engine bay. good luck Newbie...Oh yeah...go find a flame suit.

The OP did not need to ask a multiple time asked question.

Granted, but not many people go to Walmart and ask 5 people where the milk is.....

I clicked three buttons on the forum. Didnt even type a word, and found 3 thread about this subject. This one and 2 others. If the OP would have searched for 5 minutes, he woulda seen that this swap is by no means feasible without a ton of know how, and a lot of money with a 3rd gen jbody. Never the less a 96. Thats even a hard car to swap a L61 into. So I will continue to answer his question how I see fit. I was a newb once too, and took the dickishness of others until I learned. So next time, maybe he will search.

Erik, Can you tell me where the milk is in my local Wal-Mart please...I have a hard time finding it.

Exactly now he knows he just walked in on a sausage fest where every guy thinks he has the biggest frank.

im pretty sure ur wrong. how could the motor not fit? its almost the exact same thing as our 2.2 ecotec. the only issue that has been pointed out is that the head comes very close to the bmc on a 2k+ but if you notice that the pre 2k cars had a different one with the lines that dont come out toward the pass side.

now im not saying the OP is up to it, but dont tell him it wont fit cuz it def will. from reading what the OP said id assume he doesnt know what he is doing and hasnt researched enough because first off the 2.0 turbo would be hell to do in our car just looking at fueling.

Read This

and then decide for yourself. Also, the bigger tranny mounted to the LSj wont allow it to fit in the jbody engine bay without major modification.

i have read that. it really in no way says it cannot be done. i saw a link to PJ's thread where is is putting in the lsj bottom... id say thats enough to know that it fits in there. its not anything to argue about cuz the OP wont be doing it anyway.

ok....
first off...

"Search and find out. You will see that is has NEVER been done and due to dimensions, can not be done unless you wanna build your own tubular front end and get involved in a few other MAJOR mods to the engine bay. good luck Newbie...Oh yeah...go find a flame suit."

thank you for your assistance...but you do not need to be a jerk about it.

second...

"

"OP", please refer to me as Rod.

Third,

"its not anything to argue about cuz the OP wont be doing it anyway."

who said anything about me not doing anything about it?...cuz of money?...got it. cuz of inexperiance?...got it.. it was merely a question as to the time consumption.
i know there is quite a bit of work to do on a project like this, as that is what it is. a project.
if i stopped doing anything cuz i was ever told that i couldn't do it because it was "impossible", i would not be where i am at. successful. as with any project, there will be ups and downs, and some mods will need to be done. those are obsticles that need to be hurdled, and they will be.

thank you all for your assistance.

- He wasn't being a dick, he told what you needed to know.

- OP = original poster, the guy who started the thread... unless whoever is replying remembered your name specifically they will call you the OP (just like everyone, come on who really cares who starts the thread, its about the content not who put it up)

- Your not gonna do it, its very very very common for people to come in here, of course they know everything and have lots of money to burn, usually a family member owns a shop that's gonna help, or their uncle fabricates @!#$ so hes gonna do most of it etc.. Everyone talks about how they aren't going to be just another person to talk it up and do nothing and in the end they ALWAYS end up being just another person who talked a big game and did nothing...... your the next to join those ranks, your not going to do it. Put up or shut up, no need to mumble about huddles and overcoming doubt and nothing standing in your way and all that crap.

Prove us wrong. Make it happen and then come back here and rub it in our faces.... personally I would love to see someone finally back their words up but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

true story. ive been trying to get my motor built for quite some time now. im in college and i am putting other things first and when i can financially and physically do something i do what i can but im smart about it and take priorities first. i myself would love to take on a project like this but in my situation its not even remotely smart, this is a hobby. bring on summer tho

Welcome to JBO "OP" aka "Rod"

You're damned if you do and your damned if you don't. Period.

No one is going to help you with useful advice (there is none - it has not been documented yet)

No one is going to believe you will actually do it (everyone asks about it, no one posts up pics/vids of an LSJ/LNF cav running)

Everyone promises to suck your dick if you do it (but they are betting you won't)

Your car will be nothing but unique if you do it (it won't be the fastest jbody by far)

Good luck!

BTW, you're better off swapping an L61 and bolting on the GMPP supercharger

I know exactly how to do it.

Tough luck for the OP(hahaha) I guess.

searching on this website would bring up plenty of information about it too.. its so easy to search!
If ONLY I could bring myself to post the information here.. but god I HATE spoon feeding people all the time.

BEST POST EVER! I'd swap the l61 and piece together a LSJ charger kit since the GMPP kits are pretty hard to find now

Don't buy from MANTAPART!!
There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.
