2.2 Ecotec intake manifold
Tuesday, May 05, 2009 9:53 AM
I decided to take the intake manifold off today and dremel it out. When I removed my short ram intake I noticed a thin black sludge inside
the throttle body and more of it in the intake manifold. At first I thought it might be the oil from the K&N filter so I took a look at the short ram tube and IAT sensor and there was no build up inside or on anything. The only other thing I could think of was the PCV; oil coming into the intake from the hose from the valve cover. Anyone else ever find this? and if so what is it? Thanks

Its oil coming from the valve cover through the vent tube. Its normal, nothing to worry about. (unless its a lot of oil, filling up the manifold)

Cap it off and get a small breather for the valve cover. Its not that great to be sucking up oil and gumming up your throttle body. Plus filling the bottom of your intake manifold with oil can't be that great either.

Are you serious. The VACCUM tube from the valve cover to the intake tube is a very important part of the car.

To the OP. Just take it all apart as you already are, and get some throttle body cleaner and clean it out. I do mine about once every 3 -4 oil changes. If you take the TB off it is simple and easy to clean.

What ever you do, don't do that. If you are really worried about it (and its nothing to worry about) get an oil catch can.

Yup do not put on a filter on the Breather...Keep it running to your intake tube...But to those that would like to put a filter on theres injoy cleaning oil off of everthing under the hood..

I wonder how long until everyone remembers about that little hole in between the #2 and #3 intake runners.

Exactly what I figured thanks guys!....by the way, what is the purpose of that hole BTW the runners? AND the even tinier hole with the gasket around it?

thats the other half of the PCV system, and where the mystery oil vapor is coming from.

most fail to realize that the vent on the cam cover is the IN not the OUT.

okay, so is it bad to have just one of those small breathers on the valve cover? other then oil possibly getting in the engine bay?

Nothing, some people just spoke with ignorance.
