I have a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Coupe with 118,000KM on it.
What I am starting to notice is as I start driving from 0 and get up to about 60-80KM and go up or stay steady a humming noise is coming from the engine or somewhere around there like when a motor powers up and slowly gets up to speed.
When I am coming to a stop you hear the humming get more quiet and slowing down and then stops while I am stopped. I never used to have this before. Its not really really loud but its enough to hear it and know that it was never there before. Something in the engine or some component under the hood?
I hope im describing it right for someone to help me figure out what this may be.
Thank you!!
sounds like a bad tire....

or a wheel bearing
horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.
I alredy had bearings changed about 6 months ago - this does not sound the same as bearings or even anything from the tires
Sounds like something under the hood thats starting to make noise now that probably never did, like how a remote control car powers up , then powers down, that engine/hum noise is what I am getting (sorry not sure how to explain it)
Any other thoughts?
Could possibly be your power steering pump or alternator.
Idle pulley? When mine was going bad it sounded like the car had a small supercharger on it lol. Sounds like what your describing
1997 Cavalier Z24 4Spd Auto. Magnaflow dual exhaust.
Mine sounds like I have one of those supercharged cars or like a V8 under the hood, its getting a little louder now. Just want to have an idea of what it may be before I take it in somewhere.
Any suggestions? Or does the idle pulley?
If its the idle pully - is that a big and expensive job?
you said the noise stops when your not moving right?

yes..you hear it as your accelerate..most high after 80KM/h....but when i slow down and come to a stop you hear it winding down and go away...so yes..only while driving or accelerating...
any thoughts??
wheel bearing, tire, anything in the drive train, not the damn motor.
