96" to 99" ECU Problems
Thursday, May 14, 2009 4:03 PM
Ok i have a 96" 2.4 5-speed and i swap out the engine harness and ecu with a 97" harness and a 99" ecu to get rid of the egr code as well so i can tune it after i install my turbo kit. My problem is after i installed every thing it wont start, turn over or anything. i checked all the wires and everything is good and tight. When i reinstalled the wires on the starter i for got witch ones went where but i think there right. I have 2 wires on the big post ( big red battery cable and one for the alternator) and one small one to the small post( small purple one) is that all thats suppose to be installed or did i for get one?

i was told that maybe the anti threft system might be activated and thats why nothing is turning on? I turned the key back and forth a few times and smelled by the injectors and i dont smell any fuel whats so ever. I have a alpine alarm by the way with a kill switch installed as well, could that be the problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks...

Ok i was just looking every thing over and found out the small purple switch wire was loose. I tightened it and it fires right up but it stop after 1 second and the threft light starts blinking. So now that i know what it is how do i disarm the theft system on the car now?

If the Anti-Theft is engaged you will see the lights on your dash on at least and the Anti-theft light flashing.

Anti-Theft applys to our cars for only 10mins, the way to get rid of it is to try to start the car once and then leave the keys on pre-start(when all dash lights on) position for 10min until the anti-theft system stops flashing(IT will flash while you wait).

After i try this is this something thats going to come back after a while? I dont know the web address but some guy is selling these bypass kits for $70 bucks but ill try this and see what happens. If it comes back and locks up again would HPTuners get rid of that?

i think that is the relearn process. So basically once you do it, your car will relearn to use the new stuff and you wont have to worry about it any more.

The issue wont come up again after you start the car up, let it die, dont open the doors, leave the keys in the on position, wait until the light stops blinking. Climb back in, or reach back into the window, take the key out for about 20-30 seconds then star the car up. Should be good to go after that.

i told you try to turn the car on , it wont, then leave the key in the on position and you will see the theft indicator light on the dash blink. Wait until it stops blinking and then start the car.

I did this yesterday when i switched my PCM. the problem will not come back. So just do it
