Low Temp Thermostat

Whats up everyone!

I've got 80,000 miles on the ecotec...Im thinking a coolant change as well as a low temp thermostat...

Has anyone experimented with the low temp thermostat before?

Also, What does the ecotec recommend for the proper coolant mixture?

Honestly, thats the first one I found, whats going to be the difference...i mean its only $20

Will it lower my AC temp? I like it cold...lol

It will have no affect on the A/C temp, the engine coolant will just be "X" degrees cooler, which will give you no performance gain. You won't have as good heat in the winter, and many newer cars will set a code for "ECT below regulated temp" which means the SES light will probably be on forever, or until you put a stock temp one back in there, whichever comes first . Also, on the Ecotec it's such a long job to replace the thermostat, there's no reason that you should consider replacing it if the one you have works.

Hmmm okay then. Should I drain my coolant and refill with fresh then at least?
It's never been done but I have added Water Wetter or w/e the stuff is called...


Also, Im ordering a S/C soon...was gonna get it from GMpartsdirect but they say its discontinued...summit racing still has it, as they say but i dunno...Do you know whats going on?

Definitely flush the coolant. It turns acidic over time which is the main reason coolant leaks develop. It's made much, much, worse on aluminum engines since the aluminum corrodes so much easier than steel/iron. What I would do is drain all you can, remove the upper radiator hose at the engine and put a garden hose into the upper hose and run the engine until all you get out is clean water. Then drain as much water out as you can, then add 1/2 the total capacity of antifreeze (up to 75% if needed for your climate), then top it off with water.

I have no idea about the availability of the supercharger kit. I thought I got one of the last ones in existence, I bought it from another member well after it was discontinued and GM ran out of them, it's been 2 months now, I'd be surprised if they have any left. Contacting summit would be your best bet on that tho.

Alright man...souds good

I just talked to Summit also and GM still has around 3,000 kits left. They haven't stopped making them, it's just that kit is a very slow moving part so they stopped carrying them in a lot of GM shops.
