hi everyone ok well first off im new to these forums so thank you guys for having them here. I currently own a 99 cavalier 2200 its slightly moded with full exhaust headers all the way back. It has air intake system, venom injectors, and new high flow fuel pump. I installed a strut bar and have it lowered 1.7 in front and 2.3 in rear. the car is 9 years old in my possession and back when i was 20 i was really into the racing scene. at one point it had a full bomex body kit and sat on 17 in rims. it was a looker at one point before the accident but is still in good shape.
ok sorry for the rant now to my serious question. as i said its got the 2200. I have seen people with the engine boosted talking about it pushing 190whp. Thing is i dont want to vary from the 2200 but i have this thing about 8 valve engines. Is it really worth it to boost a 8 valve engine? im asking cause i am now really considering it. ive got the basics out of the way now i want the real deal. Also is there anyone out there that can tell me if getting a larger diameter set of valves might be possible and if it makes sense to do so. I have to tear the engine down cause my head gasket leaks and since im sending the head off to a shop figured if they have the capability id have them get that done for me.
any info on any of this would be greatly appreciated. thank you for your time

Try seperating your questions...it makes it easier to read and more likely for poor @!#$s like me to answer them all because the Ln2 crowd is a dying breed.
Boosted without a built motor and a GOOD tune it has been discussed that 250+ is feasible and been done on a stock bottom end. The tune being the most imprtant part. For long term longevity even if your talking 50% power increase (170 or 180hp or so) the rods will be your weak point, even with a good tune...without a good tune the pistons are more likely to take the brunt in the form of ring lands soaring out of the exhaust ports.
Boosting an 8 valve...well that question is matter of opinion...given enough thought and interest (Meaning if more people were looking to innovate existing ideas) I dont see why you can see LN2's in the tens alongside eco's and LD9's. To maintain longevity all of the motors need Extensive bottom end work and the LN2 and LD9 being the two which given if they are not overbored could get away without needing sleeving. The bottom ends are relativly strong once you fix the LD9s oiling issue and overall there is enough SBC stuff out there to have the LN2 given virtually thousands of options if your going all out. Overall, just a matter of opinion so no true answer...if you ask me, I like torque and torque curves coming in early and staying late is something that will always motivate me to stick with pushrods. The LN2 has a hell of a brunt factor down low even before the turbo begins making boost.
Valves you can get stainless valves from KARO and Car Customs. hes a great guy, but if it were me and you were not looking to go all out I would research some titanium valves, something lighter basically. Lighter valvetrain is the name of the game here. Also unless your really trying to squeeze every last ounce of power out...the 1mm oversize is not necessary. Stock size with some good port and bowl work will satisfy your needs.

if you want more than 100hp, yes.
thanks for the feed back guys. and yeah sorry bout the questions i have never really been good at seperating my sentences.
I agree, boost is the only way to go with the LN2, building a high hp NA build seems to cost more and more issues.
Don't buy from MANTAPART!!
There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.

No there is just not enough been explored in high HP applications for it to be easily feasible...Everyone runs into issue because its uncharted territory.
Not that boosting it is uncharted territory...but typically high HP N/A in a 4 cylinder means high RPM...which means a heavy valve train is not desired...therefore OHC is easier to deal with.
