Intake Manifold

Well I will soon replace my intake manifold on my 1997 sunfire with a 2.2 OHV due to a injector leak. so my question is : While my intake manifold is removed from the car is there something that I can do to add a little more power to my car ? like porting my intake manifold or something like that.

Thank you !!

You could port the runners of the manifold if it's the aluminum one...it would have to be extrude honed, or you could do it yourself with a air carbide tip and flex shaft but it's be hard to do it evenly...you don't want to port them too much, and ....also port match the head/intake ports but make sure you don't get any shavings inside the engine.

There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.

you could take a can of carb cleaner and probably clean up the carbin/oil build up in the ports.. just make sure you clean everything out really good so nothing gets into the combustion chamber/damages pistons. being a 97 i can only imagine.

and its probably not a good idea to port and polish a head wile its still on the car.. it may be physically possible but it will make a mess and it would be almost impossible to stop the metal chards from getting into the combustion chamber.. so practically speaking there's nothing you can really do without pulling the head and doing it in a shop.

I wasn't talking about p&p a head, just port matching the ports to the intake man which can be done with the head on, but you're right, it should be removed unless you take careful steps to stuff/tape inside the ports so no shavings get in and then vacuum them out
