Not your usual swap question: help please
Thursday, June 04, 2009 2:13 PM
Ok, ive been "in the middle" of an ecotec swap from an 96 pontiac sunfire that used to have an ld9 or quad 4 and the getrag trans. Well, going in is an ecotec and suitable getrag.

Well my problem is simply this: i have removed as much as possible from the engine for moving space. And with the rear trans mount on the front one is impossible to bring around to bolt up. With the front mount on the rear mount bolts are a mile away and no amount of angling or maneuvering can bring it closer. Has anyone ran into this nonsense before? im at my wits end with this pos... Im hoping im doing something wrong, i dont have the means to cut off and reweld a bracket for a mount if thats the case...??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to weld in a new mount for the getrag.

I'm tired of wasting my time... now I'm breakin' free.

No. As stated, Weld in a new mount.

Cut it out at the junkyard, And MEASURE. The weld it in place on yours.

I will be getting started on my 5 speed swap here pretty soon. Just need to order my clutch and buy new axles.
It shouldn't be difficult for you.

Well considering the axles were straight with the rear mount installed is it the front mount that needs relocated? would it be bad to cut the welds off the one thats there and move it?

You can order the rear mount from gm ready to be welded in.Also If your car originally had a 5 speed the front mount will need to be modified. If you had a auto and your going to a 5 speed you will need to weld in a new front mount also.If you have any questions feel free to ask, I have done the ecotec swap twice.
