got one of these from their website for my 2200 because they were having a clearance sale. it was $59 plus shipping from canada to long island so it came to about $90.
anyway, i just installed it about 2 hours ago and it was giving me a bit of trouble. when i closed my hood i realized the the drivers side of it wasn't flush with my fender, about a half inch above it. when i popped the hood again i noticed so scratches on the pipe, nothing too bad but i fiddled around with it for about 30 minutes and couldn't get the hood to not touch the pipe, then took it off and put the stock airbox with the k&n filter back in because it started bugging me. biggest hassle ever having to take the battery out and everything to get the airbox out then back in.
i thought i had it on right but theres a bend in it that helps it go over some of the wiring and stuff. this is what the hood is resting on. any idea how to get it set up so the hood doesn't rest on it?
it also comes with a mounting bracket i have no idea what to do with because it didn't have instructions. looks like this but blue
i'm gonna see what i can do tomorrow and take some pictures of it.
You get what you pay for, so pay your money & take you chances. You'd be better-off just fabbing your own CAI. Or better still... An FAI (Fresh-air induction)! Some may flame me on that, but those that know how one is designed & works will back me up here as to what it's worth. And it's worth it, IMHO.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
i don't even know what that is. nor have i heard of it.
i am not sure why it shouldn't fit. The question I have, was it installed properly. I know I had to turn the pipe a lil bit on my eBay special so that it did not do what you are saying. The 1/4 turn I did, made the pipe fit so that it did not hit the hood. I would say that you just need some patience and you did to fiddle around with it for a bit. You paid a half decent chunk for something from a reputable company. You shouldnt have any problems and if you do, you should call them up and talk to them about it.
yeah i'm thinking about e-mailing them cuz i didn't get the instructions in the box, just the tube, filter, coupler and mounting stuff.
alright quick question, on the 2.2 ohv's can i take off that silly plastic airbox above the crank case that says "sfi 2200" and work an intake out of the throttle body from some pepboys 'spectre' piping and couplers?
resson being i actually just broke off the part where the silicone tube goes into the crank case to put a breather filter there and i figured it would look a lot better without that airbox.
i built an intake outta spectre parts and have had no problems with it....come to think of it i don't have much room in between hood and the bend of the intake coming out of the throttle body....but that can be fixed by shaving a little bit off the coupler that attaches the angle piece to the throttle body....just too lazy to do it yet.lol.anyway seems to be a fine intake,no probs yet
alright so i can do that. all i need to know cuz that airbox is kinda gross.
yup i just bought all the parts for the intake pieced it all together and then stuck a breather filter on the pcv valve
yeah i put the breather filter on already and when i took the hose off that part of the airbox broke so i just put a bolt in the hole so nothing get's in it.
