The compressor weighs about 15 pounds or so (maybe more) and if you remove all the plumbing with the evaporator core, you'll save about 45 - 50 pounds total.
The actual weight I'm not sure of but all components together should weigh about that 40 pounds or so.
You could lose a bit more if you go under the dash and remove the a/c coil too.
I removed mine when it finally went out and could actually notice the weight loss of the entire system in my car.
There's alot of ways to lose weight and had been a goal of mine to do as much as possible with my car as feasible.
I did a rear seat delete but did it in such a way to make it look good with carpeting and a back cover to separate the trunk from the cabin.
Weight reduction is a good thing and good luck with it.

thanx for the info.i lost the spare tire and jack forever ago and kinda forgot bout weight reduction after that.but my a/c has been going in and out so i'm at the point where i'd rather just lose it and save the weight......only problem is the old lady loves cold air....oh well!

Everything I removed, condenser, all plumbing, and compressor.....weighed in at 33lbs.

Every little bit counts.
Even changing from a normal car battery to something like a Braille battery will reduce the overall weight of the car.
Power to weight ratio for the win.

Getting rid of AC also reduces some parastic loss on the drive system which frees up some power...my base model sunfire felt noticably peppier then the AC equped models, I don't know if that was because of weight or the drag too (no AC, ABS, etc)

Don't buy from MANTAPART!!
There is no easy ways to get HP, no magic box or gizmo... And if you get more hp, there's no way to make your car still behave and sound like a stock one. More hp usually makes your car louder, more vibrations and harder to drive...but still people hope or think maby there's some magic way to have it all, comfort, stock sound and drive.

Overpriced rebranded Deka motorcyle battery.

30+ pounds sounds about right. Worth it if you don't plan on fixing the AC, and it frees up some space under the hood.

no once the old lady gets into her own car i have no need for the a/c.i like windows down as it is.i was also thinking of removing the power steering, but i've seen in other posts that can make driving the car a real biatch!so i dunno just kinda trying to figure out what else to remove that'll lose some significant weight but won't make the car terribly ugly on the inside or out...

Buy a carbon fiber hood and trunk lid.
Once you do, you can use hood pins for the front hood and then eliminate the hood latch assembly to remove more weight.
Here's what it looks like with the removal of such.

You could also do a rear seat delete as I did and still make it look good.

Here's the way I did the back panel using a lightweight, foam based material. It's strong but lighter than abs while being just as strong.

All this probably removed another 40 pounds or so from the car while still keeping the car looking good on the interior and under the hood.
Removal of the hood latch has caused no issues even at triple digit speeds on the highway and I really don't have an issue with anyone getting under the hood for any reason.

Changing out the factory carpet to an aftermarket carpet will reduce your weight by another 20-30 pounds as the factory carpet weighs quite a bit.
Little things like this will save weight without affecting the aesthetics of your car.
Good luck.

Forget that, I love my A/C and now that it's summer time in Florida...Speaks for itself.

yeah i started removing the insulation under the carpet in the trunk cuz i was told it weighs alot throughout the whole car but i don't think that could've been more than 2 or 3 pounds so i did'nt remove it from the rest of the car cuz i can't imagine it would add up to more than like ten pounds max.

Factory carpet weighs at least 40 pounds or more. No kidding.
ACC carpet to replace the factory is about 10 pounds. So there's about a 30 pound weight savings.
And on the heat issue, I work, and play outside in the heat so I'm used to it.
I would rather acclimate than stay in my little cubicle of a/c all the time becoming more intolerant to the heat.
A/c in the house is a different story though.

I'd say about 1-2 lb a side to swap to manual windows. Not worth it.

There's probably 20 lbs worth of extra caps and wiring loom that you could easily get rid of just in the engine compartment.

Re: a/c weight?

Loom is there for a reason and it's black, not some stupid ricer color.
In this case, the function far outweighs the miniscule weight that it may add.
And even though I'm out for the weight savings, I've described it as keeping the car looking good.
So the caps stay along with the billet products.
I do car shows from time to time and this is one of the other reasons some things stay.
Btw, any extra nuts and bolts that were not needed were removed so that should help offset some of the caps etc.

How about the automatic, what's the excuse on it again?

The majority of the discussion about ways to save weight is being done by people with automatics. heh. I know a way to save 100lbs or more and make your car more fun to drive.

What about those with the cast iron blocks???? That's another 100lbs or so.
