ok i got a 95 Z with a blown head gasket (2.3l LD2), and i was just going to drop the motor to do fix it, so i can check everything else, but i was thinking would it be a better idea to just try to find a HO or a W41 and put in it? with the 95 running on OBDI can i just plug and play? so anyway what would all be needed to do this swap? and BTW my Z is a 5 spd.
Thanks,
David
for the little amount of work it would be i would say go for it.
im not sure what all is involved but i can assure you once you get the engine in there you'd get it.
I'm tired of wasting my time... now I'm breakin' free.
ok cool thanks. now for the hard part (finding a motor) but yeah after i sell my 2.4 motor and possibly sell the 2.3 i might have enough for one haha
be a little leary , from the one person that i know that had this engine in his car it took a little more than a little amount of work. his was same year and same model as yours. check for olds 442 in the salvage yards. that is where he got his engine.
ok cool do you know what all he had to do?
there's a few things, like for example the power steering system is different. otherwise it's a fairly straightforward swap. To really utilize the HO's power though, you need the ECU and maybe harness. Look up brandon blaga on these forums (cavfan1) and he should be able help you out as he is running an HO in his 95...quite well I might add
k, thanks i PMed him but im not sure if hes on alot but yeah any other help would be cool, and i know this is for the classifiends but i have a 2.4 from a 97 Z for sale if anyones intrested you can PM me
Thanks,
David
he's on nightly, you'll get a response tonight
probably in the next 2 hours I'd guess (I'm good friends with the guy)

hmm...
Bend the power stearing line.....
buy a Eprom Header,, a 27SF512 EEPROM.... DITCH THE STOCK TRANNY...plug everything in.....Make your own down pipe (if using the larger 90-92 Manie{ thats right, even LD2's from that year's had the "HO" manie} and "086" head)
Took me a weekend to swap everything out from a 92 GTZ to a 95 Z24.

yeah GTZ beretta will be your best bet for finding a motor, or maybe a grand am. if you find an olds quad 442, congrats. only about 3600 of those made.
2k and ill sell you a 92 scx W41 , and it has a spare W41motor and trans with it , but blown head gasket
What about just the W41 and NVG?

ok.....stop looking for the w41..you wont find one...the only difference between the w41 and HO were the cams..and the w41 cams are fairly easy to find by themselves..so find you a 2.3 HO engine and get the cams from someone and install them in the HO engine...*poof* w41 engine...the engine drops in ;your 95 and mounts up the same as what you have now...make sure you get all manifolds and acceccories with the engine..youll need to use your stock 95 alternator though..as well as a couple other small things....
as others have mentioned i would also look for an NVG tranny as your stock one is junk and wont hold up to the new power very well
dont worry about tuning right now...itll run fine off your stock pcm and once you get everything in and running THEN you can ask us about tuning since there is plenty out there that makes tuning your 95 simple as pie.
as for the exhaust ...i have a "different" design downpipe made especially for a HO engine in a 95 J if your interested..its 2.5" mild steel..bolts right up to the HO mani and will just need a cat or further pipe welded on after it..let me know

what tranny came with the HO? also ima try to make my own headers and down pipe the cars at my friends house right now and hes got a lift and a pipe bender and everything but anyway if anyones intreseted i got a 2.4 for sale and a 2.3 with a blown head gasket for sale now too but just PM me and ill see what i can do,
Thanks again,
David
the only tranny off the HO you can use came in 1992-94 ..its a 5speed getrag ..we refer to it as the NVG or T-550
welp i called just about every junkyard in the delmarva area and none have the beretta or any other cars on the list so im stuck with the 2.3 LO probably
but i do have a running 2.4 LD9? i would just have to put the tranny from the 95 on it? but not really sure about the whole OBDI and OBDII situation, thats a fugging headache to have to deal with.
Thanks
David
buy my collection and you two can own the ultra rare W41 fancy red idi cover , car comes with 2 of them
lol
sorry sold as a whole package
i put an ld9 in my 95 sunfire gt, 5 speed, i used the 2.4 intake and exhaust, i had to kind of play with the throttle bodys, parts from the 2.3 to the 2.4 tb so everything was compatable, it ran and drove, didnt have a problem
