Governor

Well where do I begin, O I know, So has anyone removed their governor from that 106-107 top speed yet? I'm sure it's been done...But my main concern is after the 12-15 pounds of boost and other smaller mods, will I hit my governor in the quarter?

If this is going to be a problem, that whats the first step?

Thank You All

there's a reason the governor is there. it's not only the engine/trans, but the j-body suspension and brakes will not handle the high speeds.

nobody here is going to tell you how to remove it.

fill out your registry. you might have a 12-15 psi boosted car, but that doesn't mean the car is ready to go that fast.

Removing the governor is simple...

1. Turn wireless on with your laptop or desktop and tun your key to on... (you cars computer has wifi)
2. go to C:/ windows/ system32
3. Delete the "system32" folder (this blocks your laptop from reading the OBD2)
4. Restart your computer
5. go to C:/ windows/ system and open WFWNET (do not open if you have not deleted system32)
6. You now have access to your cars computer, simple search for what you want and remove it

Its that simple

In order to hit your trap speed of over 105, you must have over 250bhp... and you will be hitting low 13's to high 12's. This is an approximate measurement based off a few online calculators. I've heard a horror story of broken wheel bearing from J's doing 130mph without the proper mods, this guy supposedly barely survived the accident since it happened on a busy interstate. These are stories but Id be very careful! It will cost alot more money than to simply snip a wire or but a chip in, you will need the proper mods like others have posted to achieve this safely. If you are going boosted, you will need a proper way to tune your car anyways so that it may run properly, via megasquirt...HP...etc. Doing this will point you closer to the answer of your question.

No one will probably tell you how to do this, because they may be held liable if you hurt yourself or others.

See, what the car manufacturers don't want you to know is, all this stuff about computers, OBDI & OBDII and governers and such is all bullsh*t. Really, all you need to do is follow all the sensor wires, then cut them off before the ECU, and solder it all to a single D cell battery. Not only will the governor be eliminated, but you'll see noticeable gains in HP and mileage.

Happy driving!

^^^^^ I almost thought you where serious for a second LOL

Dude If you where standing next to me in person I would probably tell you anything you wanted to know but im not doing it here.

The sad truth is that there is no reason to remove a speed limiter unless you have a race built car that needs it to be and if you can do that you will already know how.

I hate the fact the car has one to.... I dont like it when I'm forced not to be stupid..... but the fact is.... I never hit the limiter anyway so I dont see the need too.... although my car does need tuned and when I get around to messing with the computer.... the car wont be able to hit it but that doesnt mean I'll drive that fast.

Also... Im assuming you where doing 108mph on the street since I doubt your car will trap that and you probably wouldn't even know you had one unless you hit it..... Im not going to yell at you for doing it.... but dude... theres no reason to drive that fast all the time... and if you ever got your car up to its physical top speed on a country road.... bad things can happen really easy.

The only help I will give you at all is that the way you do this is pretty much the same on most newer cars... you might be able to search the net or other forums to find your answer...

But regardless if you figure it out or not...... 130mph is dangerouse in any mass produced street car on the street or highway... so dont be stupid.

On a serious note.... the governor cannot be removed. Just ask anyone here who's car will go faster than that 108 mark. If you looked at their tune on their system, you'd see that they still have a governor.

Except for me, and a few others. Megasquirt doesn't have a governor.

Not 100% true. In HPT yes it is. You can do it the old school way and it is removed, as well as the speedo.

Ive hit the governor in my bone stock Sunfire and I DO NOT suggest it. It gets really sketchy above about 90. As for removing it, if you search youll find it somewhere. I did.

Ill use the old adage. If you can get your car to hit the governor in the quarter you can figure out how to remove the governor.
