hole in intake
Thursday, July 02, 2009 2:26 PM
I had my intake off today cleaning and polishing it and I noticed there was a tiny pin hole in the bottom of it. I have no idea how it got there. It isn't near anything I think could cause it. My question is, what should I do about it? I'd rather not buy a new intake, but I have thought about it. I could piece one together too, but if there's a fix, I'd rather go that route. Maybe some epoxy or something like that would work? I don't know though, I wouldn't want anything to get sucked into the TB. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's the 'cai' pipe. I don't know anyone personally that could tig aluminum that thin. I could probably find somebody at school though.

there wont be any adverse side effects from running it that way if you just didnt care... but if its an issue for you just put a sheet metal screw in it and call it a day.

tig welders work fine on thin aluminum.

Hmm, never thought about putting a screw in it. That might not be a horrible idea. It is pretty much on the bottom so it's not really visible, I just don't know how I feel about having a screw head sticking out of it lol.

I am actually thinking about painting it black. I've been trying to do the all polished look like you've put together so well, but it's just kind of a hasle to keep up. Trying to get an idi cover completely polished is especially a bitch.

After going through my possibilities, I think I may just leave it, or put a screw in it for now. I have been wanting to do something a little something different with my intake anyway because I'm kind of tired of looking at the damn thing. I appreciate the comments guys, thanks.

I don't have much experience with metal epoxy. I know it's a tiny hole, but I wouldn't want to get any of it sucked into the intake if it got too hot.

Was it rubbing on something? If it's in a straight area of the pipe you could cut it in two and get a coupling with two hose clamps.

If it is small I doubt it is an issue but I would recommend this as well. Buy a coupler and clamp it on in that area.
