Not true... In fact, the only real difference between the LN2's trimmed for S-truck & FWD-car apps (The J-bod wasn't the only one that got it!) is external/peripheral stuff, such as the accessory-cradle & intake-manifold. If you can manage that swap (the intake, for which there's not enough clearance) then you'll have an increase in low-end torque... Something pretty handy when running a overdrive trans & short (numerically low) gears in the final-drive. But I doubt you'll go that route.

Now, if you swap a pre-'98 head onto it... Then you'll get an increase in compression. Probably more than your management can handle if you dare to run the commonly available pump-fuel (87-93 octane). Plus, nothing that attached to the '98 head will bolt-up... which means having to use everything from the mating-surface up from a pre-'98 engine. And having to either rewire the injector leads with connectors for side-feeds (Distinctive to the '92-'97 LN2s only!) or reworking the manifold to accept top-feeds & re-plumb the fuel-system accordingly. In short, alotta work.

Guess you might as well just get a set of slugs from Wiesco & call it at that.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

The cooling passages are different. The older 2.2 head will not work on the 2200..

Nope, just the head-gasket is different between the two designs... and the S-truck & Fwd-car apps on the older design.
