i bought a ecm from a member with a base tune in it hpt . when i tried to start the car the anti theft light flashes and the car shuts off . it runs for maybe a second . the ecm is from a 99 3spd he said . i have the same 99 3spd 2.2l . is there a way around this ? i thought it was a plug and play thing . any help would be appreciated
if you arent spraying your just playing !!!
You have to do the theft-lock relearn.
Start the car and let it die, then leave the key in the "run" position for 10 minutes. Turn the car off and start it.

i had this same problem with my 99 it was 2.2 but 5 speed, it first started doing the same thing you are expalining, starts then dies, i pulled the alarm fuse, after that it ran great like nothing was ever wrong, then about 2 months after that, starts the same thing again, starts and dies, guess what theres a computer in the gauge cluster, turns out mine wasnt getting signal from the gauges to the computer to keep it running, i replace the guages, throw the fuse back in.... never had a problem..... so i would start with the fuse... if that doesnt help go strait for the gauges if that doesnt work...maybe it is the ecm
^^If you did the relearn 1st you wouldnt have had to go threw all that.
