I've been building a 2000 cavalier over the past few months, it had no motor,tranny or power stearing rack when i started. i recently got it running, sound good, idled great. Then i put on a header and 2 1/4 piping back to the cat. since i did that it misses slightly, and has a bluish smoke that smells of gas. the car sat for a year before i got it and when i first started the car its exhaust wasnt hooked upto the cat. what does this sound like? thanks for any input...

Sounds like it could be your fuel regulator could be making your engine running rich.
Blue smoke is burning oil, not fuel.

When i saw burning oil it usually looks black to me, but then again, im no expert.
And then it sounds like a head gasket if it is oil burning. Take your dip stick out and smell it, if your oil smells like gas then it could be your fuel regulator.
(my car was having the same problem, and it was blue/grey smoke)
Black smoke is carbon(unburnt fuel). Blueish smoke is oil and white smoke is water/coolant. Always has been and always will be.

well it was bluish/grey/white smoke and i found the problem it was getting to much fuel like GTmatters suggested. a wire going to an injector had chaved threw and was grounded to the head. replaced the wire, changed the oil and filter a few times and it runs like new.

I had running rich problems myself, that is one of the reasons i knew it was a fuel issue.
