Well im posting this just to let all the LD9 fans know....my hybrid LD9/LG0 Quad started with no valve to piston action. I was very eager to start her up that I did not wait to install the header which is being welded as you read this. I found a way to make the LD9 fuel rail and line run around the LG0 cam tower and steering pulley.
Thus I installed the injectors and the intake manifold. I just wanted to start it and hear her run or hear her miss....but she did not miss. Actually it idled @ 3000 but I did not let it drop since I did not have the cooling system hooked up. So I turned it off before she got hot. But she did not turn off on her own. So I need to find out why it was @ 3000 RPMs...maybe once it idles it'll drop.
I managed to make the Quad power steering fit on the LD9 with no modifications. So now all thats left is to get the header back and install.....get the manifold dipped in chrome....install the water outlet....hook up the cooling system.....then tune with HPtuners and go from there.
I just wanted to let everyone know the 086 head and H.O. cams will work on an LD9 block with no issues as far as piston and valve loving.
Thanks for reading and enjoying LD9 modding!
GMR has got nothing on this
Cool glad to hear you go the car running. Didnt you used forged 9-1 pistons? I wouldnt want anyone to mistakenly read that and think the HO cams work with stock ones lol. Cant wait to hear how the car pulls compaired to your GTZ.
Check your IAT sensor for the high idle.

Forged internals arent needed just for HO cams, there are a few people running them on stock motor. if thats what you meant.

I was talking about once you swap to the 086 head. The head is designed differently than the 2.4 head, the valves physically sit closer to the pistons. It has been widely speculated that HO cams would have valve to piston love with this head swap and stock pistons. I think hes running 9-1s with custom valve pockets cut in. nice to know they clear those pistons though since I have a similar setup in the works.
Yes cory is right, on the 086 head the valves sit closer to the pistons. Plus with the high lift H.O. cams with the 2.4 LD9 crank stroke seems a bit near death experience for the valves. ....I did however forget to mention that I do have dished pistons with custom valve reliefs.
Yet the theory prior to my setup was there will still be valve to piston loving. Thus I am posting to let everyone understand everything went according to plan. Stock flat pistons shouldnt work since even the destroked Quad had valve reliefs on the pistons.
So brief summary.....2.4 crank stroke with high compression 086 (lower sitting valves) and H.O. cams will work with valve reliefs. Just make sure you time it right!

Oh yea ok using the 086 head is different, then would you would need lower compression pistons and valve reliefs are a must Id say.
Whats the final compression of this setup with 9:1 pistons?
I did the math a while back I think its like 10.5-1 or so with the 9-1s. With the stock pistons its 11.37-1.
