When doing the secret cam swap is there anything else that needs to be upgraded along with the cams or is it just a clean cam only swap??? Thanks in advance for your help.
throw the cams in and go. other words plug n play. im hittin the rev limiter so it might be a factor with the swap. but im auto.
New timing set, and new water pump. You'll thank me later, and when I say new, please no reman.
f the new timing set unless the stuff you have is messed up. new water pump yes. unless you just recently replaced it (basicaly considered new)

i personally do not think doing these cams are worth the hassle.

^^^ im not going to argue with this statement. all chains can stretch. but why replace it if it still does the job correct? if you take the chain off and try to set the timing you WILL know if it has stretched. like i said replace it if its messed up.
and putting these cams in aint a hassle unless your weak.
I didn't think the secret cams were anything special, until I'd been in Nate's car and felt the difference... WOW what a difference for the price!! Add some P&P and you're good to go...
If there's nothing broken or worn... then the cams can be done by themselves. But as many will tell you (myself included), since it's a lot of work to get in there... may as well do the rest while you're at it.... because it SUCKS to have to do it a second time!!
i did secret cams on my car...
if its the first time in to the cams, its a pita, but...
WORTH IT.
make sure you get new gaskets etc too, especially for your cam towers, and dont forget the little ones that go between the cam towers and the timing cover.

you should pull the head and replace head gasket why you're there, porting it also. and every other gasket on up.

Ill explain, I agree, not worth it especially if your going turbo. I have these cams in and sure they may of given me a couple extra HP but nothing to brag about. These cams are barely spoolin my turbo. I even had them in when I was N/A. I SEE NO difference with these and stock cams.
If your gonna do a cam swap, swap in the HO or W41 cams and be happy. This is on my to-do list.

Well I don't plan on turboing the car. I'm just looking for a few extra hp. Also, I think I will be fine because I just replaced the water pump, timing belt, etc. about 4 months ago when we replaced the motor.

Oh got it. Yea it would be nice to do that but I don't have that kind of money right now. Plus I need to replace the transmission first because my 3rd gear synchro is going and now it grinds going in. So if anyone has a 96-99 manual tranny for a 2.4 let me know.

the bold statement made me laugh really loud with SPL behind it. i bet the turbo is barely spoolin cause its a little one or you dont have the boost cranked up. i seen your time. low 14's with a turbo. wtf
^^^ man you really dont know wtf your talking about, do you? his turbo is NOT small. this car is plenty fast, and will only be faster with ho cams. ive ridden in this thing... believe me, the 14's it ran during the hottest/most humid day of the summer is small potatoes compared to what is capable of.
why waste your time on puny secret cams when ho cams are so easy to do? thats my explanation.
sure they may be a cheap and affordable upgrade, but if you do it the right way spending an extra couple hundred on ho cams is pennies compared to doing a water pump, head gasket, valve job, head cleaning, p&p and all of the other various small things.
and really the only difference is whining about it. you can find ho cams just as easily as secret cams in junk yards, but when i say 'do things right' i mean buy them brand new, use brand new lifters, have the intake cam modded to work with the power steering, etc etc etc.

Ok, your about DUMB! I don't think any explanation would help your dumbass. Small turbo?? Really? What is a big turbo by your dumb standards? Yes, 14's with a turbo. Like brad said, it was 96 degrees with about 100% humidity out, spinning crazy off the line. Did you pay attention to the trap speed, or can you night read mph? LMAO at you kid. How about you go get a fukken paint job before you try to talk about ANYTHING that has to do with my car.

Haha I guess I'll waste my last post on your newbie ass and tell you yes I got beat at the bash by a car with a fully built engine and m62 and is a season racer. He ran a 13.1 with 278hp to my 14 with 303 hp. It's all about putting the power down. My point is I have a 12 second car IF I can get the shiat to hook up. Now, make sure you look me up next time if you come to a bash and try to race me with a lovely GM supercharger.
Meanwhile, paint your damn car while I upgrade my "little turbo"
