Here's the deal, I plan on building my cavalier 2.2 ecotec for boost (lots). What do you guys think of the garrett gt35r and will it fit will all the factory stuff on the firewall.

re: fit against the firewall - it depends on what style manifold you're using and how it's designed.

The GT35R is a good turbo for the application, but you should definitely do your research first. Figure out what kind of power you want to make, get some compressor maps, and go from there.

also, the boost forum is that way -> http://www.j-body.org/forums/list.php?f=40

True, the GT35R is dependable on the Exhaust Mani that you get.

I lean towards Mitsubishi 16G and 20G, personally

I have a goal as well, to make between 250-300hp, so I went with the Hahn Stage II 16g (http://ww.hahnracecraft.com). The kit is a complete bolt on for your 2nd or 3rd gen (if you have a 5spd). You don't list your engine, but you if you run 5-10psi, you can generally get a 70-100hp increase going from stock to the stage II kit.

You mentioned that you want lots of boost, you're probably going to need to upgrade the internals as well, to boost it up higher, and attain 300+

Here are some good forums for reading.

I know this is in the wrong forum. I have the 2.2 L61, Its getting pulled this winter for the rebuild. As far as power goes, I cant say what I will hit due to the fact that there are a couple of people on here around my city. I dont want word getting out around here. There are a couple honda's that everyone talks about, and I plan to take them down; there around the 11 sec mark.

That's a BIG goal then. Hahn runs 10s at 600+ HP. Not saying you can't do it, but I am saying you'd better be prepared to spend a lot of cash and to a lot of work.

If I may add a few cents:

Thanks for the good words on the thread so far everyone.

Yes, the GT35R is a very effective unit...it's what we just put on Cameron (BoostedEcos) car. He's already put down 540 WHP on a mild tune, and hit the 10's in the 1/4 mile. But be advised...it's not for the beginner. It's for seriously built engines and drivelines only, and will be a hi-RPM only boost curve, so street enjoyment is reduced.

We can provide a system or components that are based on our Stage V, which is what Adam Hahn went low 11's @ 125 MPH with. It's our off-the-shelf Stage II kit with our PortFueler StreetRace intake manifold and a couple other goodies like the Super 20G and Billet BOV, and it's a proven, very streetable performer up to 500 HP. You can start with it on a stock engine at low boost, then later upgrade the engine with a basic rebuild (pistons and rods, mainly) for a nice, dependable, daily driveable combo. These systems are noted for our engineering and development knowhow, and have resulted in hundreds of thousands of street miles in all the kits we've sold. It's a very solid system!
