So who all has had problems with Walbro pumps?
Saturday, September 12, 2009 1:19 PM
Ive heard of many people having problems with walbro 255 intank pumps, fuel cut at 1/2 tank, 1/4 tank, 1/8 tank and so on. I also have seen and talked to a few people that didnt modify anything and didnt have any problems at all.

I know everyone loves the racetronix pump, but I have a walbro F20000169 sitting around. So basically I wana hear your experience with them. Did you modify the cup at all or anything? I have seen a few different writeups on how to solve the fuel cut issues, which have most people done and which way is has the best results? I also have a walbro 255 in-line pump sitting around, would using it as a booster pump help keep feeding fuel? Any input is appreciated, except for "buy a racetronix" hah.

Thanks

I am using the walbro 255 intake pump. All I did was drill a hole in the top of the pump and put a brass nipple in it just like the racetronix pump and I never had any problems.

This is why people get fuel cut with the walbro it does not have the extra line/hose to fill the cup. I remember seeing a post way back showing this modification being done.

We Moded the Cut on Speedracers 02 Z about a week before it got totoaled.... to the best of my knolage, after doing such it only had fuel cut at the very bottom of the tank (1/16 he loves to drive it down..)

John..... that has been talked about here?! wow.. never heard about it. If so,,,,, DO IT. I love my racetronix with the W41.

Although, I do have a Baffled Tank AND a siphon fuel cut that moded so it sits lower....

I burnt up two walbro's, I hate em, will never go back to that one. I also never let my car get to a 1/4 tank just to avoid the fuel cut issues.

I would still go with a racetronic pump if you are buying a pump.

I didn't mod mine at all dropped it in after previous owner burnt it up. Never had a problom but then again I don't let it drop below a quarter of a tank. Although I might do the brass fitting as a just in case measure.

Wow, never realised its just because the walbro doesnt have a fitting for the suction hose! Ill prolly mod the pump itself and just put a small fitting or bolt with a hole in it, unless I can fint a T fitting for it. Just gona get the stuff locally so I dont have to wait for it to get here. If I woulda known this I woulda done the pump a while ago.

Thanks everyone! Ill let ya know results when its done. So other than the suction fitting, what makes the racetronix a better pump? Cause if this is the only issue it seems like more modding needed to make the racetronix work. I guess people could say they had long term issues with walbors but it could be the same with racetronix since they realy have been used in j's for very long.

....I thought the racetronix pump IS a Walbro255....all they did was mod it for us so it doesn't suck anymore lol. That's at least what i keep reading.

That is exactly what it it...they just use the walbro 255 and put it in a custom housing with fittings/tubing/filter that are matched to a 3rd gen camaro's in-tank unit, and it just so happens to fit ours.

When i disassembled my racetronix pump it was just a modified Walbro 255.....with the suction hose added.

So then why does everyone say the racetronix is soo much better than a walbro? Paid half the price, and already modified it for the suction hose. Plus I dont have to worry about modding it to fit in there.

Lol because, dont you know it's follow the leader here on the org?!!

But hey, its been proven its a great pump. It has J's on here running 10 and 11's. It's better than a regular walbro because of the extra pickup, thats all. Plus it has the option of the wiring harness, which the regular walbro doesnt I believe(at least my old walbro didnt)

Yes you can run the wire harness with the regular walbro 255..And Im running the harness now because the stock wiring couldn't handle it anymore for my power level.. Me personally I wouldn't run the walbro 255 on the stock wiring past 325whp in order for in to be reliable and so it doesn't burn out the relay..

Lol, yea I hear ya the racetronix is a good unit but Id just rather not spend double the money for a fancy walbro which I modded to in a few minutes. I think modding the walbro for the extra pickup was easier than grinding away the ridges in the module and then actualy cutting the racetronix to fit. Ill take some pics later.

Yea I plan to upgrade the pump harness down the road with alot of other fuel mods that arent needed just yet

Double? Been I while since I looked up a regualr walbro, but lasttime I looked for one it was like $125, plus harness. The racetronic I think was $175 shipped with harness. That does not add up to double the price.

I myself sometimes like to drop something in without modifing it, like the extra tube. Has warranty from racetronic, you modify a normal walbro and you will have no warrany I bet.

I dont let the fuel level go below 2/3's and my walbro has been going strong for 5 years.

100 + 14 sec passes
150 + 13 sec passes
100 + 12's
