Need vin for pcm reflash
Wednesday, October 07, 2009 10:05 AM
Ok i've been watching ebay to find a car so i can use the vin so i can get my computer flashed today. It's a 99 sunfire with a 2000 2.4 5 speed swap. I've been running a 97 z24 computer on it. But well i'm tired of seeing the light for the egr.

So i'm looking for a 99 sunfire gt 5 speed with out cruise vin. A cavalier z24 vin will work but rather it be a sunfire. This is probably the wrong place to post but not sure where it would be a good place. This is just for a 99 pcm reflash. Someone willing to help me out?

use the last 6 of your vin.

1, Us built
G, General Motors
2, Pontiac
JD, Sunfire
1, Two door coupe
2, Active Manual Seat Belts / Driver and passenger front inflatable restraints.
T, 2.4L LD9
6, Check Digit, This is the only value I'm kind of, unsure of.
X, 1999
7, Lordstown, Ohio Plant

That will work? I found some vins but most are for cruise? Would that affect anything? I have all the cruise stuff just the harness has nothing for it so i would have to wire it all up. Sorry md been away for awhile. Just wanting to get it right after a year.

4G1JF32T4XB901566 This one isn't cruise
4G2JB32T9XB200836 This is the only sunfire i found. Not sure on cruise.

I see what you mean by the number. The one after T. What is the difference? Then the one after x

JB is Sunfire convertible....
The one after T is the check digit
The one after x is the location it is made.

The B is Lansing, Michigan.
The 7 is Lordstown, Ohio

Yes the check digit needs to be changed.....per the link you posted.

http://www.autocalculator.org/Free-VIN-Lookup.aspx?vin1=1G2&vin2=JB12T1&vin3=X7547893

According to that it would be 1 instead of 2. 1 was the only time it popped up valid.

My vin now is 1g2jb1240x7547893

My new vin for the computer would be 1g2jb12t1x7547893

yep. In GM's vin directory it says....jb in a Sunfire / convertible.

Seems good to me.

Sweet i went down to the stealership and they can't get in till friday at 11. And it's 75 bux's. You wouldn't no anyone around the eastern panhanld of wv that can do the flash a tune it do you? All it has is cai, ho manifold and tb, 4to1 header, with a magnaflow res, magnaflow single in dual outlet cammaro muffer done with 2 1/2.

O and the stealership said they don't know if it will flash. When i know it's been done and such. Along with they couldn't find the gm charger or even knew what i was talking about.

Why not get someone to delete the EGR code with HPT. Maybe even get a full tune.

That's what i was asking. Where you at john? I think you were the one that said it would tune it before. But i need it converted to a 99 program so i can use the 2 wire knock sensor. It's been unhooked for a year now in which i'm tired of getting 20mpg. Because the timing being retarded like 10 degrees.

I have a inovative wide band in it also. So tuning it wouldn't be that hard. Though the car isn't all the way right yet either but has been fine. Like i need to put the 2.4 radiator hoses on it sometime. Switch out the fuel lines. Using the 2200 lines on it. With flared ends on the 2.4 rail and clamps holding it on, Along with the right power steering lines. It's not clear in the greatest shap either but still get the job done.

But one thing is i think the fuel pump might be on it's last leg or the stupid ball and socket on the header is messing with the o2 as when it goes in closed loop it will buck and carry on sometimes. Like running out of gas but then like 20 sec's later she run just fine. It has the heated o2 conversion so that isn't the problem. But if i could get some one close to do it. For not much more than a reflash with the gas. I'd do that. Or heck if someone would stick the pcm in there car and do a better tune than what stock is for my setup i'd ship it out.

I'm in Fl. Sounds like you need a heated O2 sensor, with your bucking going into closed loop.

Aww well someone offered before. Way ahead there i've researched all that before i even did the swap last year. It has a delco 4 wire o2 sensor in it now. I've changed it 3 times. Just to make sure. Along with it is wired up right. I think it is because of the dumb ball and socket leaking. I've tried everything to fix it but nothing has worked. Looks like i'm gonna have to get a flex plate on it. I know it is throw all kinds of codes though. Just becasue it doesn't have alot a things.

Like egr, after cat o2 and knock sensor. I've been meaning to check all of them agian. Also you might know what is the tps voltage suppose to be? With the thottle closed. Most gm's are .67 like my ta and such in which thats what i set it to. Since the stock 2.4 one was .54 volts i think. But i made it adjustable if your wondering.

Meant to say flex pipe instead of plate. Not sure what i was thinking there.

I am also in this boat, have a 99, need the s/c flash but GM wont do it because its a 99 and the kits were designed for 00+.

The only Vin I can find is one from a 00 z24 auto, which I assume wont work as I have a manual.

I tried using the year digit in my vin and creating a new check digit per the above referenced website, but when I try to validate it comes up invalid.

Im not sure which way to go with this.

not sure if you can just make up a VIN like that because the last 8 digits the dealer uses t oidentify the option in that car so if you make 1 up you may not get what you want

cruise wont matter it shouldn't throw a light as the engine doesn't require it to work in order to function properly

as for a VIN if you want a 99 VIN from a Z24 i have 1, i accually have a PCM but not sure if you want me to pay for shipping when you can get 1 local. i would juse get a 99 PCM from a wrecker and swap it
