2.2 and 2200 differences

I know there was a link to a site posted somewhere that explaned the physical differences between the 2.2L and the 2200 motors, but I sure can't find it now.
What I'm wondering, can I remove all of the components from a 96 2.2L and install them onto a 98+ 2200 short block and use it in the 96? This would include head and intake, exhaust, oil pan, etc.
I know there is a difference in head design, intake/TB, and exhaust manifold, and oh yea, the crank sensor.

head and intake mani won't properly bolt up. I don't know why you would want to use the @!#$ty intake on the 92-97LN2 anyway. this thing freaking sucks.

why not put the pistons from the 2200 into the 2.2? up the compression significantly, all you would have to do also, is P&P and get a tune. easy hp pretty quick.

You're saying I cant bolt the 96 head to the 2200 block. But I can use the pistons from the 2200 block in my 96 2.2L block. Now then, can I also use the crank and rods from the 2200 block in my 2.2L block?

rods and pistons, but it would be better if you got aftermarket better rods put in either way, don't bother swapping out the crank that's in there. and do a re-grind on the cam while you're at it too.

the head will bolt right on... unless you are boosting rods are not needed... the eagles are way to heavy for n/a motors

our racec ar has an untouched 99 bottom end with a cam and a 91 style TBI head... evrything will work. but you gotta put in higher grade fuel

Ok, so what I want to do sounds feasable. My 96 2.2L has a terrible rod knock. I got a line on a 2200 block with rotating assembly, no head, oil pan, or accessories, for way cheaper than a crank kit. That's all I want to do is unbolt my 2.2L components and bolt them up to the 2200 block. Naturally i'll go ahead and put in a new timing chain and oil pump. NO performance parts whatsoever. The car is'nt getting raced, it's just a driver, it just needs to get by for awhile longer till I round up every component needed for an eco swap. Thanks for your insight Bob.

Big Problem! The '98-up cranks got their crank-sensor trigger-wheel notches advances several degrees to help with fuel economy by tricking the computer into firing the injectors sooner (As the intake-valve opened, instead of as it closed). So, no dice on using the '98-up block in a pre-'98 app unless you reprogram the ECM to correct for the advanced trigger-notches.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
