Ok I spun a rod bearing in my 98 Sunfire GT. So, its time to rebuild. Im planning on using the down time to make the motor better. I plan on shooting 100-150hp on nitrous. I have about $2200-$2500 to spend on project (not including nitrous kit). My question is, is there anything im over looking in my rebuild. So far I got...
Engine rebuild kit from importperformanceparts.net- $999
Eagle forged rods- $309
Crankshaft from GMPartsDirect.com - $200.64
All the rest is things im considering and looking for input on whats needed and what can be pushed to the side until later
Poly Transmission mounts- $55.98
Poly Engine Mount- $17.99
Forged SS valves- $255.84
Valve seals (VSS230)
Valve locks (VK 292)
Secret Cams
Fidanza Flywheel
Header
ARP Head studs
ARP Main/ Rod studs
Stage 2 Clutch
anyone got suggestions for stronger/stiffer springs or prices for anything listed above?
any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
if you get eagle rods they come with arp bolts so you dont need to buy extras.
do not buy a fidanza flywheel, they are junk. the centers sheer off 90% of the time.
dont bother with secret cams if you want real power, go with HO's.
as far as valve springs, just get stock replacement HO's for use with the cams. nothing stiffer needed.
other than that stuff id say you have a nice start.
I must confess... I feel like a monster!
ok thanks, do u have any P/N to HO cams ad springs? and one question, are there any clearance issues using the HO cams? wat compression pistons should i go with?
that rebuild package comes with Federal Mogul rod bearings, shud i still get the clevite bearings?
Do a 2.3 oil pump swap, if not start saving up for the 3rd rebuild now. Be such a waste to put all those niceparts and not spend a little more to make sure there safe.

yes, absolutely go with a 2.3 oil pump conversion. not only does it provide better oiling but it ditches the balance shafts which are utter dead weight on the rotating assembly that is robbing power. the engine does not need them, believe me.
as far as you're piston choice goes.. depends on what you plan to do with the engine. all motor? get high compression domed slugs m45 supercharger kit? get high compression domed slugs. big boy turbo boost? dished low compression slugs.
I must confess... I feel like a monster!
high compression all the way.
high compression LD9's LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE being juiced.
I must confess... I feel like a monster!
