hybrid swap head gasket

I am putting a 086 head on a 99 2.4 have searched repeatedly for answers. I am using a 2.3 head gasket but can not find exactly how to modify it.

I have done this swap and used a 2.4 felpro gasket. I matched the 2.3 head to the 2.4 gasket. How did you match the head to the block? Did you modify the head or the block? If you modified the head to match the 2.4 headgasket then you will need to match the 2.3 gasket to the 2.4 gasket. If you matched the block to the 2.3 gasket then you dont need to modify the 2.3 glasket. It all depends on how you matched up the water/oil pasages.

I have not done anything yet. Was told I needed a 2.3 gasket or have hot spots. I don't know. What is easiest and best. where to drill for oil and water??

Brad.....who said you can run it without modifying head?

As for the way I know it and have it running on my LD9 you simply modify the head and use a 2.4 gasket.

GMR has got nothing on this

One other thing to consider I had Cometic make me an LD9 head gasket with a 93mm bore size to clear the combustion chamber of the 086 head. A stock 2.4 only has a 90mm bore and any hg material overhanging the combustion chamber can lead to a blown head gasket.

The felpro didnt hang over...you could see metal all the way around. The cometic is a nice option though.

SCE says their copper gaskets can be used with either 2.3 or 2.4
