Hey guys, were starting the build on my 2.2 eco, and im wondering from epericence of others if re sleeving the block for the new pistons is absoultly nessesarry? i found sleeves but for around 800 bucks.. any info appreciated.. thanks, nick

absolutely necessary? not even close, its not necessary at all to replace pistons
? its necessary in my case, in building the motor that is...its turboed and looking to make some real power... but if i should be okay with the stock sleeves i wanna leave it...

Anything over 400whpish and you are pushing the stock sleeves.
219whp - I <3 whine
You asked if it was necessary for new pistons, it's not. Make sure the cylinder bores are round and hone the wall and put new appropriately sized pistons in.
"real power" isn't a number so that doesn't help with your second question.
If you are getting rid of limitations, sleeve the block dude! I wanna see 600+whp!

no i asked if it was nessesarry to resleave the block for new pistons... and i dont see the car over 400 hp..lol thanks guys

No you dont... but like darkstars said.... you will still have to hone it or you will burn oil like hell.
great.. thanks guys very much appreciated..

not that it matters now but thats what I just said... "it" meaning installing new sleeves. Definetly save your money if your not going over 400. Forged rods and pistons, MLS head gasket and ARP head studs is all you will need to safely hold the power (obviously you'd want to do more then that for the sake of making power, like cams, valvetrain, headwork, maybe neutral balance shafts, the hardened oil pump gears aren't a bad idea, they are easy insurance)
Of course!! lol.. so far we have the pistons, rods, and ordering the cometic head gasket.. the build will be taking place within the next two weeks... leaving the head stock until there is more money to spend.. hoping to have the rest built before the bash in ohio!!! if theres anyone who would like to throw a couple ideas my way id love to hear them... will be purchasing new valves, cams, studs.. i would like to make close to 400 hp tho... in all honesty...

Nick go to allecotec.com and ask Karo about your build. He should be able to help you get parts.

if you're installing pistons, then no you don't need new sleeves.. assuming they're within spec in terms of maximum bore.
if they've been overbored too much, then you need new sleeves.
but just a straight up piston install, at the most just a bore and hone job at a local machine shop.
if you want to push past 450hp, then dartons would be a necessary upgrade.
We carry the Darton ones at www.TurboTechRacing.com, it is actually what I have in my ecotec cavalier.

great, thanks a lot! im using the stock bore 10:1 wiseco pistons...if you guys dont mind i have a few more questions id like to get familiar with.. its very possible i will have enough to build the head in january too.. ive heard tons of diff ways to do things, but would like a lil more info.. in the lower end we have the pistons and eagle rods, and in the head im told that stock valves will be ok along with springs and retainers seeing as in how you can tune with hpt further than 7000 rpms...to build my head safe for 400 hp, this is what i have in mind,, the comp cams, new arp head bolts, and the cometic head gasket.. will i run good and safe at around 12-15 psi with that setup? or will i need more? if that setup is good i will have the motor finished and ready for one of the guys on here i was talking to to start tuning.. thanks in advance!!

you will need new valve train if you decide to run any aftermarket cams. REQUIRED? no but definitely the first thing i would upgrade.
Gotcha.. even with the new valves, im not out of budget so i will consider that option.. thanks!
