I am broke, got mods laying in the garage, but wont afford intall for awhile thanks to my job cutting my hours.
Anyways, I need a fuel servicing done to the plenum and tb, so I am thinking while this is happening I mind as well get .0001 extra hp.
Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the Ecotec tb?
Any tips on cleaning out the tb so I do not damage the IAC or any other electronics?
I don't have machinery to bore the tb, but I can sit there for a few hours with sand paper starting with heavier grit down to fine.
Then use my drill with a honing attachment to get it as smooth as possible.
It wont do much performance wise, but I do need to get the tb off so I can do a real thorough cleaning of it and the plenum.
Any tips, suggestions, or list of procedures would be appreciated.
Thanks!
ps I did do a search

* 8 gauge ground wire kit
* Toyz front strut brace
* Russell stainless steel brake lines all around.
lefty loosey, righty tighty.
thats all you need to know really.
I guess I really was asking due to a previous attempt on another car that semi-failed.
My Fiero Formula had the tb sprayed out with throttle cleaner, and I took the vaccuum hose off to spray in the plenum too.
What ended up happening, and I never had this happen before, was the darn red straw attachment launched itself into the plenum when I sprayed the can in the vaccuum line port on the plenum.
I had to remove the entire plenum to get to the red straw; I did try getting it to drag out, but it went in further.
So what happened...
What happened is that the plenum seemingly was easy to remove with a few bolts and removing the throttle cable.
What I did not expect was some bracket that I did not see where it originally was fell off into the engine bay.
I got the bracket, knew it was somewhere belonging to the back of the tb, but never figured it out what its use was or location of placement.
It looked like it served no purpose, but in the back of my mind, I was prepared for the engine to act weird or the throttle cable would be hindered somehow.
I never did put the bracket back on.
I did however, match ported the plenum while it was out. So in the end, it worked out better this way and forced me to learn a little about my 2.8 liter motor.
The Sunfire is my wife's car, if I mess it up, it wont be good.
I am broke, so buying a Chiltons isn't happening for a while.
I should probably buy a new gasket for the tb if I do this. I hope it isn't more than $10.
Even $10 on non-essentials is not good right now.

If you can't afford it, don't do it. Not only will you have to make a bigger throttle plate that is absolutely, PERFECTLY round and machined just right, I GUARANTEE that you will have more than ten bucks in the whole project.
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!
I guess I was a little vague on the actual "bore" work.
I was just going to open it up a hair, but on the intake side.
Not a straight through bore, just a step wider neared to the intake side.
Then I will hone it on the intake and plenum side, but very lightly on the plenum side.
Definitely no metal removal on the throttle plate resting area.

you just want to taper it then, might get you a bit more power from the better transition. you said you had mods just sitting in the garage and your job cut your hours. sounds like a perfect time to install those mods.

I am no good with swapping a manifold for a header nor dropping the rear suspension to install the rear strut brace.
I have no lift, nor experience to go an do it.
My concern is for the header is that it is most likely going to require cutting and welding.

^^^^ the reason you have no experiance. Dont beat yourself up over not knowing how. all you need is the ability to read instructions and know the differance between a 10m socket and a 12m wrench.
I don't have a Chiltons manual unfortunately.
I do want to learn, but I don't want to go in blindly like I did with the Fiero.
If I disable the wife's car, it would not be good.

if you can't afford to fix it should something go wrong, the answer is simple. wait.

I wont mess it up though if I got free info on how to remove the tb safely and to install it back on safely.
I know, righty tighty left loosey.
I know some bracket, line or sensor might be overlooked in me digging in to remove this and I wanted a heads up is all on what to do and to watch out for.
