Ok I have read on here the balance shafts from a 95 are smaller and lighter but cant remeber where. I have also read that the housing is the same as the one from the 2.4. My question is does anyone know for certain if the balance shafts are different and if they are interchangable? I have a 95 laying around and when I put in a melling pump I figure if they are interchangable and lighter then why not swap them in as well.
Pretty sure the balance shafts are matched to the crankshaft harmonics. Swapping them with different balance shafts will just be a mismatched mess.
Leave them alone or remove them altogether.
Thanks Pj that was the info I was looking for. I knew there was a reason others didnt do this just wasnt sure what it was. Looks like the balance shafts will stay in this engine.
Do the 2.3 oil pump swap....

I have all the parts except the crank gear for the swap. I decided all the work of disassembly, the time or money to have the holes drilled, and either zyaaas block or pan modifictions arent worth it for what I want out of the engine. This is the engine Im builing for midrange torque. The cams are 212 duration at 50 with .340 intake lift and .350 exhaust, im guessing itll loose umph before the rpms get too high.
I thought you were going to go HO cams and the 2.4 head? did you change your mind again?

Sound like HO cams that someone ground down to LD9 lift.....
Just find a 91-94 LG0 and be done with it.

Im buildng 2 engines, im throwing a 2.4 head on the engine with the balance shafts and the cams mentioned above, they are the 87-88 2.3 cams. I have the old style tubular manifold and a 4-2-1 manifold im adapting to fit. This is the engine in the Z right now. Im going fo midrange torque, this engine will eventually go into the vert and be my daily driver engine. Its kinda experimentle.
As for the other engine it has eagle rods, knife edged lightened crank, 2.3 oil pump swap, and 9-1 wiesco pistons. On this goes the 086 head, custom header, and a larger reground HO intake cam, specs not quite sure of but close to crane cams sepcs, and an HO exhaust cam. im using the smaller exhaust cam to flatten the torque curve for use with my automatic trans.
I had thought about jut getting an LG0 but I aready have the built 2.4 bottom end. These are are my final plans and they are tn going to change this time lol.
Make your own 2" secondary's though.
The primary's are larger then even the Stan's header.
That reminds me, I need to sell my .450/.430 cams one of these days.

I have some 1 7/8 mandrel j bends I was going to use for the secondary's. Id love to get my hands on those cams but im sure they are beyond my budget lol.
