Ecotec Valve Relief Question
Monday, January 25, 2010 1:33 PM
Hey,

I am planing on building the top end of my Ecotec for this coming season. It is going to be just a simple All-Motor build.

The plan so far is:

1mm Oversize Si Valves
Comp Cam Stage 3 Grind Cams
ZZP Valve Springs
LSJ Headgasket

My question is, does anyone know the max valve lift that you can run before having to get valve reliefs cut into the stock pistons?

I'm slightly worried that with that much extra lift and the thinner headgasket I might be getting pretty close, then again I could be way out to lunch, I haven't found any information on the subject.

I'd rather not clay it if I don't have to.

Any input would be great guys, better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks guys!

You SHOULD be safe. Key word: SHOULD. If you are in doubt, work with a local engine machine shop to analyze and set up the clearance. With the head off, it's a simple matter to remove the pistons to increase the clearance if needed.

You might also inquire with Comp Cams.

Good luck!

Thanks Bill, I never thought of calling Comp to ask them, I'll have to do that.

I was thinking about just claying the top of the piston, but I'd rather not install the head and then pull it again to check the clearance if I don't have to.
