Racing Solutions header compatability
Wednesday, September 09, 2009 4:30 PM
I am hearing two sides on this.

There are ones who say the manifold on all Cobalts will fit directly onto the older 2.2 Ecotec 02-05.

There are ones who say some will, some wont. The tranny seems to be the variable that prevents some manifolds from swapping.

Racing Solutions has a header available that is a 4:1 and a lot of Cobalt owners have gotten large gains in MPG from them.
The gains in hp and torque are there too, but I am more interested in the 4-5mpg average gains they have landed.
I thought it was bs, but several people are claiming the same over different threads.

Does anyone have one of these on their Ecotec?

* Vibrant rear strut brace
* and Russell stainless steel brake lines all around.

the issue with that i think is that its a "stock unbolt exhaust manifold bolt this header into place" and if i recall the 3 bolt pattern on the cobalt downpipe is going to be different then the ones on the JBODY.

Though you could have an exhaust shop make a custom flange or find one off a cobalt and work from there.

Looks like a nice shorty header. It should be a bolt on for the cav. People have been bolting on stock LSJ manifolds on Jbodies for years...

Does anyone have experience buying from these guys? They have some cool body parts for the Corolla, but I don't want to order if it turns out to be another Mantapart.

It'll fit just fine I have a zzp sitting on the floor in my room just had a custom downpipe made for it. Fits fine.

Reviving the thread because I heard two stories and need to make sure I don't blow $200 on a paper weight.

I heard that some people here have the Racing Solutions 4:1 stainless header on their Ecotec 02-05.

Someone said there was a fitment problem due to a coolant line.
They modded their coolant line and it cracked as a result.

I know the down pipe flange is different, and will need to find a Cobalt or custom flange.

I just dont want to find a hidden problem when the shop charges me to remove my old manifold, try to install the new header, then tell me "sorry buddy it don't fit" then charge me to put the old manifold on. I would be out $200 for the header and $160 for the redundant removal and reinstall of the manifold.

So if anyone here has an automatic Ecotec 2.2 with this header on, please tell me what it entails.

Thank you!
