I'll start a new topic post here just to keep things separated a little. These are from my assorted scattered notes and measurements that I took from my little experiments with different setups... Your results may vary dependent on wear and tolerances on what parts and tools you use
.

As far as spring pressures @ XXX height, the Manta Part Springs fell just about Middle of the 2.4 vs 2.3 until you get close to coil bind, then they get almost as stiff as the 2.3's. I can't find my notes for that session but I'll keep looking for them...
If anyone wants add in or refute, please feel free.

thats pretty much what my machinist and i saw as well. do you have installed seat pressure specs?
good post, gary.
If I can find my other note book I'd know for sure,You know how that "old timers disease" works,I probably thought I heard a cheer and threw it to the crowd. But if memory serves correct,2.4 springs were around 43lbs. , 2.3's were 75ish and Manta Parts were 58ish...

great post.
i just want to add so it will be clear HO valve springs are any 2.3 quad 4 springs besides the 95 engine model.
so if your at a junkyard and you see a quad 4 with a power steering
belt those are the springs to get.

again, good job....sounds close. i know my 16 new gm 2.3's were 80-82.

This is why I'm pulling the head off mine (and the fact that I'm starting to push coolant out the overflow under 17lbs. of boost),I'll pull the Manta Part springs and replace with the 2.3's and put in the new cams and throw in a cometic .045 headgasket...

Whoa whoa, Im pushing coolant through my overlfow as well at 15lbs. Is this because of the coil bind? Please explain these Mantapart numbers to me. Whats good, whats not good for our boost levels? I have NEVER seen numbers for all three of these springs, thats why I have stood by my Mantapart springs, because I had no proof otherwise.

just in case anyone is interested....i have a full set of quad4HO springs w/retainers for sale. PM me for info, i dont wanna thread jack any further
So am I right to assume the stock 2.4 springs will be fine with the secret cams.
^^^ yes, absolutely. i ran them for years on my engine. i have actually spun it to 7500 rpm's and it didnt blow (dont know how LOL).
the mantapart springs would be PERFECT for LO (LD2) cams. (which is the exhaust cam of the secret cams and the intake cam of the same engine, just doesnt have a CPS or power steering hex)
well i can tell you from personal experience the manta part springs will float if you rev rpms close to 7000 rpms if your cams are close to ho cams specs
manta parts springs
install height is 1.50 intake
install height 1.35 exhaust
, seat pressure is about 70 and the bind height is .980.
this was what they measured everything out at when i had my head at the machine shop before i killed it.
Gary thanks for the post!
