So I ripped out the old air intake out of my 99z24 today, and looking at where I want to start the aftermarket one. I know if i start from the actual throttle body some people have had the rubber bend rub against their underside of the hood and i was wondering if starting the aftermarket piping from the airbox/throttle body cover. Looking into the cover it doesn't seem to have to much restriction, but then also read a post earlier on here that some restriction is good. So planning on doing a 3" intake from the throttle body cover, anyone done it this way with good results? Or is just starting from the throttle body itself better for hp gain? Thanks

Throw all the stock intake away, spent $14.99 on ebay and get a pipe and filter for your 2.4L LD9.
end of story
too bad they're more like 50.... lol... i wish i coulda found a cheapo one for less... its just a tube..
some of the cheaper kits only run from the resonator or w/e that box is called, not the TB... gotta watch for that.. but yeah, rip it all out... that box might be hollow, but the air still expands into it instead of shooting straight down the TB... simply put anyways..

Well they are $29.99 with free shipping. I picked up one a while back for $14.99 with free shipping, and there was tons on for that price. Guess they went up a little in price, but for $30 bucks, you can't complain too much.
yeah.. i was looking for shipping to canada, might have excluded some... still happy with it... anythings better then stock, just need to find a K&n to fit.. surprisingly hard to find around here...
but yeah, cant go wrong... especially when some are paying hundreds for the same thing minus the namebrand and flashy logo.. lol
Thanks for the help, also i was planning on bending some metal to make a sort of box off for it, basically a piece to fit around the pipe and block between the air filter and engine?

you could fab up a heat shield... but i dont know if it will matter much...the filter sits far enough away imo...
